WHAT DO YOU THINK OF ANOREXIA AND OTHER EATING DISORDERS?!

Question: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF ANOREXIA AND OTHER EATING DISORDERS.?
Hi, I was just wondering what everyone on here thinks of Anorexia and other ED's I have been a sufferer since January this year. I am still struggling with it and am no where near recovery yet however am pretty happy at the mo.

I know exactly what caused my ED. What do you think causes ED's.?

Do you think school children should be made more aware of ED's, who and how they can affect people.?

Please reply so that I can see what the general public thinks.

Thanks.

PS. I am 16yrs.

To be honest, I think the media and our obsession with the chronically slim has slid too far.

We condemn women for any weight gain, even if they look healthier, including during pregnancy. Heaven forbid that a woman should achieve a size 12 or more - yet somehow, we have the idea that a stick with a lollipop head looks healthy.

I think the constant stream of tv and magazine images of what women "should" look like according to many deranged individuals, combined with teen angst can lead to eating disorders.

I have never heard one doctor on TV go on so much about the risk of being chronically thin, as you do about the risk of being chronically obese. Both are as dangerous, being chronically thin can lead to heart attacks too.

I used to have Bulimia years ago, I was a teenager too, and all I needed to hear with hindsight is, everyone is different, we all have different bone structure and not all of us are destined to look like each other. Why on earth aren't they parroting this on tv, instead of showing blooming Posh Spice (who was never that fabulous anyway) and behaving like her skeletal frame is anything to be jealous of, she looks hideous.

It's about time girls were allowed to be themselves, if they were, they would eat at a rate that was good for their body, and learn to have the ideal figure for their frame, whatever size that makes them. Our obsession with being "told what to eat" has removed our instinctive desire to eat what is best for us when we are hungry.

I think school children should be told more about eating disorders and the danger to their bodies such as oestoperosis, brittle nails, tooth damage, etc, etc.

I hope you can come to terms with your disorder and get over it. If you have not already, please do discuss this with a medical person, whether that be school councellor, doctor, etc.

They will help you.

I think a desire for control may cause eating disorders, a desire to fit in or be accepted, a desire to be desirable, to look thin, or because of poor body image. I'm sure there are plenty more as well. I don't think children should be more aware of the disorders, but should be taught to love themselves and accept themselves and their bodies. Health Question & Answer

Anorexia is a form of control. I was anorexic in my early teens and do suffer with relapses whenever I feel I am not in control of certain situations. Whenever you feel you cannot control whatever is going on in your life you can certainly control what food goes in your stomach. It makes you feel more secure knowing that. I feel that anorexia usually affects pubescent teenage girls who feel unable to cope with whatever life throws at them now they are becoming young adultsHealth Question & Answer

i think celebrities and thhe mdia cause it. im 16 and feel horrible when i go shoppping im a size 10/12 and feel i cant wear nice clothes as im large. so my main reason for wanting to lose weight is because i want to be fashionable, i suppose. but the press and media play a bif part too!!!! get well soon :) i dont know if school children should be made aware of ED's because it might put ideas into their heads. hi there well i dont have an ed but i know someone who does This person is a lovely person but lacks confidence You ask what people think Do not be swayed by what people think No one has a right to judge anyone every person is an individual in this world No one but you knows what triggers the ed You just have to take one day at a time perhaps do what my friend does and plan a chart and just try and reach sensible goals every week just remember at your age you do need goodness and nutrients to keep the body working properly cos in future years you might hit problems good luckHealth Question & Answer

I do hope you have talked to a trusted adult about your eating disorder and getting professional help. I think girls are under way to much pressure these days to be thin. Most interpret thin to mean beautiful. I have two daughter that are beautiful and thin and some days they still complain that do not look good and feel fat/ugly. it really worries me to hear young women put more energy into being thin than confident and smartHealth Question & Answer

they f u c k i n g SUCK.

i have bulimia and i hate and struggle with it everyday. i have been in the hospital a few times because of it. its horrible and notice how you say sufferer.

its a disease and i wish i could take back ever starting it. I also know why it started. the society now is so obsessed with how we look it hurts everyone at one point! i have to have my bathroom door locked after meals I am sick and tired of living my life around starving and throwing up and keeping it a secret its a deadly secret.

i have lost so many things becuase of my eating disorder. my hair falls out easily i have thrown up blood. fainted. i have lost friends to it also and i think that hurts the most.

so what do I think about eating disorders they suck and i want them to evaporate and never come back.

ps. im 13 i have had a eating disorder since i was like 10.

yet im still f u c k i n fat.Health Question & Answer

I havnt suffered with any eating disorders thank God in my lifetime and im 21, however my cousin who is 12 suffers from eatting too much and has done since she was a toddler. Although it is the opposite of what you mentioned here i thought i would mention it because i know it has simular emoional effects as Anorexia or any other ED. The sufferer can get symptoms such as low self esteem, obsession, withdrawal from friends and family, repetitive to the point of addiction etc.

I agree completely with the fact that Eatting Disorders of all kinds should be taught in schools and made more aware to parents as it effects children immensly throughout their childhood and can continue to do so throughout their life not just leaving physical but emotional problems too.

It should also be highlighted, where you can get treatment and help for this and be accessible for children suffering from this but who havnt done anything about it.

It can be cured!! they should be made aware of this.

Hope that helped... Good luck with everything, chin up and u can do it!! xxHealth Question & Answer
