I am extremely depressed and suicidal right now, and I have a couple of things going on are that making it so much harder to deal with. I have so much stress from school, and my weekend is the only time I get to calm down. In another hour, I have to go work on a project with two girls that are really shy, and don't seem to like me, and Im really shy too. We have to make a movie and it is going to take a very long time, esp. because these girls can't say what they really want done. Then, tomorrow, I have to write an entire essay assigned on Friday and due Monday. I have no time for myself, and I am stressing so much I've been so close to suicide, and some stupid projects are a stupid reason to lose my life over. Please give me some advice on how to calm down please. I really need some tips/help. Health Question & Answer

Try to remind yourself that in the scheme of things a project or paper for school is nothing. Always try your best, but dont push yourself too hard. When you find yourself stressing over something try to stop, take a deep breath, and step outside of yourself. Ask yourself if what your worrying about is really worth worrying about. If it is then try to remind yourself that, although some things are worth worrying about, none are worth stressing yourself out over.

Can you blow off the school work a little bit.? Like do the movie half assed and write the essay really fast even if you end up with a just a C.? You sound like a high achiever to me. Is there any reason why you can't relax your standards a little bit.? School is not everything. If you want to go to college, you could go to a less prestigious college and still get through life. Your ultimate success depends on the work you do after college, not where your degree is from. You need to put yourself first. That means staying in touch with yourself. Like go for a walk, or write in a diary or talk to a good friend. I'm sure there are people all around you telling you that performance is number one. But maybe you could stop believing everything they tell you. Anyway, don't kill yourself. Call a suicide hotline if you have to. When you go to the movie project in an hour, can you tell the girls you have a time limit because your mother needs you to do something.? Like tell them you only have an hour and a half today. It is refreshing to hear that you can look at things objectively and realize that school work is a stupid reason to live your life over.

Now that you realized that you want to escape from your problems rather than die over them, I am going to suggest other escape methods that aren't so permanent.

You could take some time for yourself even if it is for 20 minutes just to take a walk and breath. You will be giving your mind a break while getting a natural boost in seratonin while you move around.

Other than that just do one thing at a time. Just go through the movements. Your projects will get done and things will be OK.

That is really deep... I have been in your boat. It always seems like your so overwhelmed and nothing can get done and everything is going terrible for you. All you have to do is stick through it... everything will get better. I promise. Nothing can tear your loved ones as much as a suicide (I have a uncle who committed suicide) and it is a mental illness. Although I personally never talked to a counselor (I ended up coping with things by writing music) just think how worse off some people are. Your project may be a little awkward- but is it really worth throwing everything away for.? You have so much left to live for- I personally love listening to music and writing when I am stressed. I also lift weights sometimes and that works perfectly. Let me know how everything works out for you!
