Can you ask the surgeon for this...?!

Question: Can you ask the surgeon for this....?
Can you ask a surgeon to prescribe you medicine to help with anxiety prior to having surgery. Let's say your surgery is in 3 weeks. Can a doctor or the surgeon prescribe you Valium for like the whole week.? I have really really bad nerves and may have to have surgery. I get so freaked out that I can't sleep several days in a row. Is there any help for people like me.?
I have prescription of 5mg of Ativan that I take once in a blue moon, but it's weak and not sure it will calm me down before a surgery. Surgery's scary! Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Yes, it can be done. You are far from alone in feeling anxious about things like this.

It is very important for you to be in the best health possible before you have surgery. That means, you need to make sure you are getting enough sleep in addition to doing all the other things you would normally do to take care of yourself. I would definitely speak to the doctor right away about this situation. Tell him/her that the 5mg of Ativan just isn't working well enough, and you have already missed several days of sleep. Don't wait on this.Health Question & Answer

You don't ask, you don't get!
And you should be taking your current medication as advised, sweetie.
Good luck with the surgery if it happens.
