When you can't seem to live without it and when if you haven't for a while, that's all you can think about. It's a bad habit that needs to be broken. The longer you do it, the worse it gets, the harder it is to stop. It really dangerous. Most people don't realize how easy it is to strike an artery. You can bleed to death even if you just slightly nick one.

You need to get help. Health Question & Answer

Being addicted to something means that you feel you can't go without it. Even when you try to stop, you just can't. You get an overwhelming urge to do it, even though you know that it isn't good for you.

Cutting may appear to be a way to help you forget the pain of other things in your life, but it certainly is not a healthy thing to do. It is destructive, potentially very dangerous, ugly, antisocial, and will leaves scars on your body that you will wish you didn't have later in your life (try explaining that to your kids!).

If you are cutting yourself now, you should see someone who can help you deal with your problems. Particularly if you can't seem to stop yourself. You may find that small cuts stop "helping" and you get more and more involved. Addictions of this kind should be treated quickly before you have an "accident" that you can't take back.

If you engage in something compulsively and repeatedly, and each time it is unsatisfying and joyless, necessitating repeat behaivour; you are probably addicted.
If you are referring to cutting yourself then there is probably a separate psychological issue which needs to be attended to.
Good luck and best wishes.Health Question & Answer

Well lets see...if your addicted to cutting in the beginning stages you'll probably start out as a "once a month-er" and then gradually work your way up to every week and probably eventually every few days. And beginning addicted to anything else...how often do you do it.? Do you feel the need that you won't be satisfied until it's done and you just need to do it.?Health Question & Answer

If you feel the need to or do cut anytime something doesn't go your way or you get frustrated with someone or something you feel is beyond your control. You may find it helps you get back that control but that's an illusion. Plus, you can end up dead or in a mental hospital and think of years down the road when you're embarrassed by the scars. It's a very dangerous coping mechanism! Get happy the old fashioned way and smoke a joint! Then you won't care about control.Health Question & Answer

That would be, do you continue to do that thing, and find it hard to stop doing it... That is pretty much the definition of an addiction. The rest goes into details of habitual and physical addictions.

Pysical addictions are ones where your body physically aches when it does not have something, (usually a drug) You can die from some withdrawals when these happen.

Habitual addictions are ones where you do them out of habit, or for a purpose, but that have no physical side effects. Health Question & Answer

If there are times when you consider that cutting is not a sane thing to do and you make a decision not to do it again but then in a moment or time when you feel out of control then you do it again then you are addicted. If you do something even though you don't want to or no you shouldn't and you have a need to do it to feel 'normal' or in control then you are addicted.Health Question & Answer

Hm..I would say if your doing it a lot, and finding that whenever you are upset, you feel the need to do it. I know that a lot of people use this method to help them with their problems, but it's not the healthiest way to do it. I know this, because i used to do it a lot. It doesn't result good, people look at you differently and you end up with a lot of scars. I personally don't think it's the best way to help you through things, as it can end up that you do become addicted to it. I hope i've helped you.

Thats something you shouldnt be doing it all. Regardless if its an addiction, if your doing it, then something is wrong. Your addicted to something when you cant make yourself stop. People have the attitude that they can stop when ever they want to, but the never do! Good luck and hope you can get help if you really need it!Health Question & Answer

Not everyone that cuts or do some other habit is addicted.
I think it becomes an addiction when it turns into a compulsive continued habit, with a complete inability to stop.
Then IT controls YOU.
