That's an interesting question. Do you wonder if morbidly obese people are selffish, or someone with terminal cancer.? According to some theories, people's 'attitude' and 'life-choices' influences their health, right.?

In my humble opinion, addiction is a dangerous and not well understood disease along with very bad life choices (not much unlike morbid obesity, which may be interpreted as a food-addiction, or not well managed Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus).

Certain substances (some of which have been synthetically developed in the last century) have affects on the brain that evolution has had no time to deal with yet (unlike alcohol). If you need more information on this, I'm working on a thesis and can provide you a source at a later date. Unlike alcohol (where the majority of mammals can use and enjoy it without any harm and a certain percentage gets addicted, everybody who uses cocaine or meth will get instantly addicted. People with this pre-disposition to alcoholism and people with an exposure to the other substances will have no power, free will, or say, whatsoever (because the brain and it's dopamine addiction will make the person do things that they can not control anymore).

Is that selfish.? In my opinion, in the beginning, then someone makes that active choice of becoming or having themselves exposed to these substances knowlingly is somewhat unfit, but I believe, addiction has nothing to do with being selfish, but all with self-destruction and self-hatred!Health Question & Answer

Yes, of course drug addicts are selfish.
It's their way of escaping the real world and from their problems in life by taking drugs to ease pain, to cause illusions, or sometimes for no reason at all.
Addictions are hard to get over though, so you can't really expect someone to say ''I'm done'' after weeks or months of taking drugs. It's in their system and it can take monuments of time to clean out.
Any person suffering from any addiction can say they want to stop, but later commit what they're suffering from. lol and yes, some people will say they won't take drugs but will go to parties and take them anyway BECAUSE 'you' don't know. This can be for a number of reasons: They don't want to be in trouble (selfish), They're trying to escape (selfish), They want to protect you (thoughtful, but in this case, selfish), or they feel thrilled with getting away with something.
No matter what the reason though, yes, Drug Addicts are selfish. Always remember though, most of them can't help it. They CAN, but it's very VERY hard.
Hope this helps. Health Question & Answer

Addiction is not easy to stop or remove from your system so no I dont think they are selfish its the addiction that drives them not them themselves. Yes addicts appear selfish but if you have ever tried to give up something that your body loves/craves/desires/needs you would see that it can be very.... extremely difficult. An addict can only give up when they are ready to do so, yes they will tell you what you want to hear because they dont want to hurt you or hive your disapproval even when its warranted. Patience, love and support is all you can give them until they are ready to stop.Health Question & Answer

Yes and no. Drug addicts suffer from a disease. Although doing drugs is a selfish act because it hurts the people that love them, they can't really control their actions because their brain works different in comparrison to a non addict. The control has been given up and they pretty much can't help themselves until they have the strength to reach out for help. Addiction is a disease like any other...Health Question & Answer

On some level yes but more accurately they are no longer in control of their decision making, their chemical addiction to the drug is what is in control. Either way, their drug use is not about you and your not in charge of it. If your tangled up with an addict, google codependency...Health Question & Answer

If they are under the influence of certain drugs, people sometime will do or say anything to get more. They tend to try and hide it as well. Health Question & Answer
