Question: Vicious circlE! anxietty!!!!.?
for along time, i have had a fear of being sick. but lately its all i can think about.? im constantly thinking about and worrying about being sick, and being anxious about being sick is making me feel nauseous its a vicious circle that i cant get out of.? would be great to know that i im not alone.? im only 20 years old, and enjoy clubbin ect, but latelly i hhavnt been going out or eating properlly, i tend to always leave food becuase of all this anxietyHealth Question & Answer

You are not alone, emetophobia, the fear of being sick or of other people being sick, is in fact a very common phobia. I know how badly a phobia can grip you, I used to be terrified to go out of the house in summer, I would close all the doors and windows because I was absolutely terrified of wasps, and like you, it go to the stage where it was all I could think about. You are right, it is a vicious circle, and the anxiety just keeps on building up. The good news, however, is that phobias are very treatable and you can be completely cured of this. Your doctor can put you in touch with a therapist, who can help you to become 'desensitised' , which involves gradually facing your fear. Or, try hypnoherapy: I took 5 sessions with a hypnotherapist and by the end of it I could let a wasp crawl on my arm without freaking out, so thats how effective it is. A lot of people are wary of hypnotherapy, or think it is a lot of nonsense, but all it involves is reaching a deep state of relaxation, where it is easier to 'change your mind' about your fears. It is very effective, and you are in control all the time, you simply choose to 'change your mind' about your fear of being sick. Please give it a try, you can find therapists in your area in yellow pages, on the internet etc. A few sessions could get rid of this fear completely. Best wishes.Health Question & Answer

Hi, i have avoident personality disorder which includes social anxiety. I have been for the last 2 years suffering really badly with this, I do not go out at all not even clubbing(i am 24). I ended up having a breakdown and saw a few nurses. I am now starting to face my fears. Anxiety has no cure you have to face up to your demons and push yourself so you can realise that things will not end in shame or embarrass yourself.

I have been reading a book called overcoming low self esteem by melanie fenell (not sure if i have the author right) and i have found it really helpful and can relate to a lot of things in the book. Once you read the book you will begin to understand the reactions and you can see what you do yourself when faced with anxiety and once you learn to recognise it and overcome the feelings.
Anxiety is often linked with low self esteem and for me my anxiety was a fear of being judged because i had such a low view of myself.Health Question & Answer

there are loads of ways to stop this i used to go through the same thing but i came through the other side the key is to take things slow try going out and if you do fill sick try taking a pain killer this wil stop the pain and also help you to forget about the sickness.
