When I was living in a halfway house after being in jail due to my heroin addiction, a friend brought me a few books from Barnes & Noble. They were all focused on drug addiction and recovery. I have never been real big on reading large books cover to cover, but I did have lots of time and an early curfew. The one I liked the most and still read parts of every now and then is "How to Quit Drugs for Good" by Jerry Dorsman. I think it is an excellent book which helped me very much. By the way... I do not know the Author and I'm not in any way affiliated with anything that will give me any type of reward or compensation for reccommending this book. I just think it's a good book that can be very helpful. The entire title is "How to Quit Drugs for Good: A Complete Self-Help Guide". I like the book because it's not based on the twelve steps and sort of gave me another option besides NA/AA meetings. Not that the 12-Steps or meetings are bad things. They help lots of people, but it's just nice to have other options. Lots of books about recovery simply repeat the same thing you get from any other 12-step program. Anyway, that was my favorite when I was working on putting a hardcore heroin addiction behind me. It's now three years later, I'm still clean, and I'm keepin' it that way.

dont listen go Gypsy A over there thats just probably the only thing he can read. i'm so sorry he's going through a hard time i know what its like and i've said it before and i'll say it again...this can happen to ANY ONE AT ANYTIME....it happended to me when i had to have alot of surgeries. i got addicted to dilaudid and all kinds of narcotics. chronic pain isnt fun.i'm more into art i am afraid i dont know of a book for him to read right off the top of my head, but are there any other places cities, or country's he's interested in.? understanding other cultures and beliefs is something that helps, it broadens your mind, opens your mind. it helps you see all the places you can travel to or learn about. India is a fascinating place my husband lived there in the South region for 3 years before we met. also, the Bible....great inspiration even if he isnt a Christian, its very informative and helpful in so many ways. i'm sorry if this wasnt very helpful but i do truely wish the both of you the very best of luck and he made literally a life saving decision...for the both of you :<)Health Question & Answer
