How Do You Know If You Are Going Insane? What Should I Do?!

Question: How Do You Know If You Are Going Insane.? What Should I Do.?

So I don't know what consists of being insane, or how it progresses or anything like that, but sometimes I feel like I am literally going crazy.
Background:
-I have been depressed for about 5 years
-it has been getting worse as time goes on
-I have tried many anti-depressant pills (in different classes too) with no positive effects
-suicide is never far from my mind, but call me a masochist because I think that I deserve to be in this agony all the time.
-I can't talk to people about it. I have tried really I have. I just end up lying to get out it.
-I hurt myself
-I am indifferent to most people. I don`t care for anyone, and can`t remember a time when i have
-can`t remembering really be happy.
-I find it hard to stay in reality. I can`t function with other people and can`t be involved with them. I make up my own realities and "live" there most of the time
-feeling like this will break me down several times during the day.
-nothing makes me feel better.
-the psych ward is not a foreign place to me; I have been here before. they couldn't help me.

Life is awful. Everything is awful. My family tries to ignore it because 'things like this' can't get out. I feel so bad and anxious and unfocused all the time, like I need to get out of my own skin. I can't function in everyday life. I cannot express how bad I feel or what I go through that makes me think i am going insane. I don't have the words.

So this is my question for you:
How do you know if you are going insane.?
If you are, what should you do.?
The psych ward did not help me at all, but is there another place I can go.?Health Question & Answer

You can't assess by yourself if you're going insane. Besides, "insane" is just a generic term that could be used to label many different conditions. And honestly you sound intelligent and pretty articulate to me. The whole tone of your writing sounds like depression to me, plus maybe some of its known and common complications.

The feeling of "losing it" or "going crazy" are not uncommon at all even in mild depressive disorders. High levels of anxiety can produce panicky feelings and of being out of touch with reality.

What you need is a competent mental health professional to assess exactly what you are experiencing and go from there. The "depression" diagnosis is a very generic assessment. You need to determine what are the specifics that might be involved in your general state of depression. There might be certain disorders and.or conditions that get cyclically aggravated. Getting to that will help greatly in determining how to treat it and what best course to take. Getting control over your symptoms could be a matter of just knowing what's REALLY going on with you.

I'd highly recommend you see a qualified mental health professional. You should strive to be seen and treated by quality people and quality health professionals. if you have money and/or insurance problems, call your local Mental Health Office, they have programs that can help. Or visit your local Colleges or Universities (Health Departments) they will definitely help you on how to proceed.

If you're not willing to help yourself first, no one qualified may be able to do it either.

No. Insane people think that they are perfectly fine and everyone else is insane. You need a better psychiatrist. It's not easy to find someone who can really help you. Be patient. It will work out. Health Question & Answer

wow it breaks my heart to know you're going through that. Good news there is a place for you! Jesus offers His love and comfort He loves you and doesn't want you to feel this way. John 3:16 says For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever belives in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. You can accept God's gift,His son Jesus, and cast your cares on Him.Jeremiah 29:11-12 says For I know the plans i have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you a hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me and I will listen to you. Jesus is waiting for you and willing to accept you. will you accept Him.? God blessHealth Question & Answer
