Yeah I take seroquel for bi-polar disorder. I take 300mg at night. I mean it helps me to fall asleep okay. I just have to make sure that I take it in enough time to get 8 hours of sleep or I wake up seriously drowsy. As for the medication it works wonders. It improves my mood, improves my concentration, and my sanity. Helps me keep a grip on the world pretty much. I'm a lot happier on Seroquel then off it. Although I have been off of it for two months and I have been doing pretty good. The only really bad side effect that Seroquel has is the risk that it can give you diabetes and pancretiatis. I hear that side effect is rare. I would consult your doctor and see if the risk outweigh the benefits. I have family history of diabetes and I was still on Seroquel so....they will monitor you while you are on it. It's really up to you. I have been on three medicines before deciding on Seroquel so talk to you doctor and let them know your concerns and questions and hopefully they will find a medicine that will benefit you.Health Question & Answer

I took Seroquel for about 5 years. It worked for me in that it did help me sleep. It made me sleep ALOT though, and I was always very tired. I also gained weight.

One side effect that can be caused by seroquel is tardive dyskensia or extrapyramidal symptoms- this is when your muscles twitch uncontrollably. Tardive Dyskensia occurs generally after years of use and causes great difficulty moving- it is very similar to parkinsons. EPS can occur at anytime. Stopping the drugs will not nessecarily reverse the symptoms. I had EPS on a different, related drug, it was VERY scary and painful.

You don't say what you are considering taking Seroquel for, but you should know almost all commonly medicated psych problems can be treated more effectively by psychotherapy (and no, it doesn't have to be CBT- client-centered therapy worked best for me). Therapy is also safer. I would not ever choose medication as an only course of treatment- it should always be in conjunction with therapy. If you have to choose one or the other- pick the therapy.

It is up to you if you want to take a psychiatric drug temporarily as an aid to therapy. I would definitely not reccomend them long term. also, since you are considering this drug, I would highly reccomend reading a book called "Mad In America" by Robert Whittaker- I got it from the library. It contains some very eye opening data on anti-psychotics like seroquel that you should know about before consenting to treatment. -NebHealth Question & Answer

I've been taking it a month. I sleep great, most of the time. Sometimes it gives me Restless Legs Syndrome, which is extremely annoying. They say it causes weight gain, but I have not gained any weight, I have actually lost a few pounds. There are several possible side effects, but if your doctor prescribed them to you, he/she probably feels like the benefits to you and your condition outweigh the possible side effects. Health Question & Answer

I took it when I started a new dose of anti-depressants, and ended up having a bad reaction to it.

It can cause sever drowsiness and occasionally a drop in blood pressure, unfortunately for me the antidepressant I had just started di this also, and about 30mins after taking it I blacked out and had to go to hospital.

So if you're taking it, make sure you have someone with you the first few times if you have low or even good blood pressure. And be ready to feel sleepy.

Best of luck.Health Question & Answer

I take at least 300-400mg Seroquel a day. I have been taking 200mg at night, although tonight I start on 300mg. The only side effect I find on the higher dose is drowsiness. That is why I take my main dose at night. Then if need be I take 25mg Seroquel during day. I find they help to keep me calm. I suppose it depends on your dose! I was being given a lot of meds before I went on Seroquel and I can honestly say it has helped me enormously. When you first start taking it you may get a little dizzy. also I noticed a very dry mouth to start with. Hope this has been a bit of a help to you and good luck with whatever you decide.Health Question & Answer

I took seroquel for maybe about 3 years give or take. At the beginning i thought it was great, calmed me down when anxious and helped me sleep. Then it stopped making me feel drowsy so didn't help with sleep anymore. Still really good for anxiety though. It also helped with the voices i was hearing for a while. I did gain weight on it though, quite a lot of weight. I was taking 400mg 3x a day.

Talk to your doctor though they will be able to tell you more.Health Question & Answer

Seroquel has good and bad qualities to it. At one time it was believed to be a link to diabetes. A side effect is drowsiness. It can be a good calmer for some as well. Best advice, talk it over with your doctor. They can give you pros and cons on it.
Health Question & Answer
