How do I tell my girlfriend I stopped my meds?!

Question: How do I tell my girlfriend I stopped my meds.?
I'm bipolar 2 - I take lamictal, lexapro, and invega. But the invega was making me gain weight so I stopped it (assume my pdoc knows, I'm just asking about my girlfriend here). I know my girlfriend will be upset because she thinks the meds are working so well. So how do I tell her.? And when should I tell her.? I haven't taken invega in a couple days.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Its your decision to take the meds, not hers. If you feel comfortable without them, more power to you. If she gets upset, she'll just need to get over it. Let some time pass and if she doesn't notice any difference then tell her. She'll realize its no big deal. Ultimately, do you what you doctor recommends not what your girlfriend recommends. Unfortunately, she'll figure it out on her own in just a short while. You may think that you don't need your meds, but you obviously do. By stopping one without telling her, and continuing to keep it from her, she'll feel like you don't trust her or that you don't feel her opinion counts. Add that to the difficulties that stopping the med is going to create, you're probably end up a single man with untreated bipolar disorder. Good luck finding a girlfriend that'll put up with your manic depressive butt!Health Question & Answer

If you don't get psychotic then why are you on an anti-psychotic.?

And assuming the pdoc knows is not the same as him actually knowing. Tell your doctor, then tell your girlfriend. If she knows then she can help you through this. Just sit her down and tell her. Perhaps ask first and see if she has noticed a difference.

you should not stop taking med , it was given to u for a reason.. and being bypolar myself and never on meds i have learned to deal with it.. when i feel like i am going to twist off i seperate myself from others until that feeling is gone. but you have been on meds for a reason so i would say go to doc and talk to them see if they have another med that u can try it is nothing to play with your health is very important
Health Question & Answer

I don't think you have to worry about telling her she will find out soon enough if you have really stopped taking your medication. My mate has bi-polar and I remember very well how he acted before he was diagnosed and was started on medication.Health Question & Answer
