You may have a problem with short term memory. STM holds small amounts of info for around half a minute, any longer than that and you have to figure out a way to store it in your long term memory, usually by mnemonic devices or image relating. If you connect a new idea (ie. a phone number) with several stored memories (ie. the tune of a song, an address) will increase the likelihood that you remember it.
Your LTM never loses information, if you can't remember something it's because it's "misfiled," ie you're looking for it in the wrong place. (Brains are like a big filing cabinet. Seriously).
Anyway, I would check out information on STM and possible disorders. It's likely you have stress or something simple like that, but it never hurts to check. Health Question & Answer

I have that and part of it is my medication. I don't know if you're taking any. also, my doctor told me that I need to pay attention to my breathing. I find myself not breathing sometimes, especially when I'm concentrating on something. Sometimes I wake up because I've been holding my breathing. This cuts off oxygen to the brain. Attached is a list of herbs for memory too. Talk to someone at a health food store to make sure you don't take too much. Most importantly, go to the doctor and make sure it's not something else. Good luck!

Sleep deprivation can definitely cause memory problems. Make sure you get on a good sleep schedule, getting 8-9 hours/night. also, I've heard that eating fish (non-fried) can help fight memory problems. GL.Health Question & Answer
