I am a 16 year old male and have trichotillomania, what is a way to stop without seeing a therapist or doctor?!

Question: I am a 16 year old male and have trichotillomania, what is a way to stop without seeing a therapist or doctor.?
My trich started when I was in Grade 9 or 14 years of age. My eyebrows were completely gone as well as my eyelashes and other areas. Today I grew back the "other" areas but I have "half" eyebrows which make me look like a fool and I still don't have any eyelashes...

any help.?Health Question & Answer

ive had trich for about 12 years now, im 23 and still fighting the good fight. a doctor is a good way to learn about why and when you pull, for me it was either when i was stressed, or when i was bored, and i did it anywhere but mostly while reading, watching tv, sitting idly. i was given advice about keeping my hand busy and such.

there is no "medicine" that cures trich. you can get anti depressants and such, but for me, i wasnt depressed and didnt wanna be on meds. there are supplements and such that are experimental and help some people, inositol. but its something that you'll always have to deal with, like an eating disorder.

but talking to someone def helps.Health Question & Answer

What advice would you give a person plucking his own hair and they are starting to look ugly.? I would go up to you and say, would you please stop plucking your hair out.? Everybody's watching you, so stop.

It's an embarrasing problem and you shouldn't do it, especially not in public. If you don't actually do it in public, then don't do it at all because people will start noticing bald spots and start asking questions. You really need to smack yourself, respect yourself and don't do it, just don't. And I'm not kidding when I say SMACK yourself.

Or go to your doctor and get some medication for that obsessive compulsive disorder. Good luck okay.?Health Question & Answer

Why would you refuse to see a therapist when they are the ones that can help you the most.? You are not the only person in the world that has Trichotillomania and if taking medication is going to help you why not take it. If you had Diabetes, Epilepsy or a heart condition, wouldn't you take the proper medication needed to help you.? I think seeing a professional is the answer. Good Luck.Health Question & Answer

I did that with my eyelashes and the back of my head. I didn't even notice I did it. You probably have it worse, but I used to just use those hand strengthener things (kinda like the things they put on the side of weights so they don't slide off while benching) so my hands would always have something to do. You need to go to a doctor just try not to do it on your own.
If you don't have the means for it, no medical insurance there should be a state clinic that will give the therapy that you need and medications if that's what you need. Go fine help. Stop StrugglingHealth Question & Answer
