Question: Does bipolar get worse with age even if you're on meds.? I don't remember being this bad when I was younger..?
Answers:
Bipolar Disorder is a progressive illness if left untreated. That is why you need to get on meds. Little diet tricks like not drinking coffee when you are up don't change the course of the illness or the mood episode for that matter. See a psychiatrist and have a long heart to heart about medicating your illness.

This link is to the National Institutes of Health/Mental Health library. A lot of the abstracts are neurophysics and other complex science but some are easy reading. Query bipolar, bipolar progression, bipolar meds, etc.

A decent talk board with some bipolar traffic is:

Both links can lead you to more info.

You can also find books on bipolar at the big chain book stores. A good memoire to read is, "An Unquiet Mind," by Kay Jamison.

PS - If you want to sleep a lot but can't really sleep or wake up every hour or two, and are anxious, aggitated, irritable during the day, you may well be in a "mini" mixed state (depressed and hypomanic together). See your doctor.Health Question & Answer

I was never diagnosed bipolar but I have been on the same dosage of seroquel for 9 years. My moods have been even the entire time except for when I got pregnant. But if there is a big change you should definately go back to a psychiatrist not just a regular doctor.Health Question & Answer

Hormone levels changes can definitely be problematic to your brain chemistry being correct, allowing your meds to work.Health Question & Answer
