I believe you can be addicted at any age. But in order for you to help her quit, she has to want to quit. Some people like to smoke.Health Question & Answer

your body can become addicted to cigarettes at any age. I started smoking at 9 and was addicted by the time I was 10. For some people it is easier to become addicted to certain things than others. For example, if her parents/parent are smokers then most likely she is quicker to become addicted to cigarettes than someone who has not been exposed to that. Same goes for alcohol and drugs.
Since you are concerned about her and you are her friend, you should go to her and tell her why you think she should try to get off the cigs. Long term it is just not worth it and cigarettes can be a gateway to other drugs or alcohol use. Just try to be supportive of her and stick up for her but do encourage her to stop asap. Tell her someone you know has smoked since she was 9 and is now 22 and would do ANYTHING to not be smoking anymore. Unfortunately since I have been smoking for so long it is not easy to quit. The longer you smoke the harder it is to quit. My friend just died from breast cancer from smoking and my father has asthma and emphysema from smoking. It is just not worth the risk to be a smoker.... Good Luck and I hope things work out for the best!Health Question & Answer

tell her parents, i occasionally smoke, but its only to relive extreme stress. at twelve you have the stress of puberty and school and dating all around you but you dont have to smoke to get rid of it.try talking to her if shes stressed, but if shes smoking to be cool then all the more reason to tell, it would be the right thing to do no matter what.Health Question & Answer

Of course she can be addicted. Best way to stop is just wanting to stop. If she doesn't want to stop, she will just keep smoking, and the longer she smokes for, the more she'll want to smoke. I smoked for two and a half years, and I gave it up because I wanted to give it up.Health Question & Answer

addiction is not created in a short span. it could be a faze, and probably is. your young and shouldn't be smoking at all. since ur not legal to do it, then of course you want to do it. defy authority and rules. live on the edge, do something your not suppose to. that is why she is smoking. she is getting a thrill and feels cool doing it. she isn't addicted, she justs wants to be cool thats all.Health Question & Answer

of course she will. your age doesn't matter much to be an addict. What matters is the frequency of usage. On top of that the period of usage. The longer and the more frequent usage is probably the best. I'm non smoker but have a lot of friends who smoke. I always hear them complaining about getting rid of the Habit which they always fail. They started smoking at about the same age as ur friend, believe me she can't quit it after a few yrs. So start nagging her now. it is worth doing it. she might not be comfortable with u for the moment coz a single stick is more important to her. "strike while the iron is hot"
Pls don't get attracted to this habit urself. I can't tell u the grave consequences, coz u definitly know. "there was a boy on the beach throwing star fish back to the ocean. his mother barked at him ' you can't throw all. there are zillions of them' then he replied " atleast I can save this one" and he threw it back. U can atleast save a soul if not two. Health Question & Answer

I doubt there is any physical addiction, other than the first few buzzes. Its just a social addiction for her. i hope you can find a way to help her. Health Question & Answer

Sure, she is addicted. But there is nothing unusual about smoking at 12. Those classmates are cruel. Soon they will be trying cigarettes and will understand. Why does she need your help.?Health Question & Answer
