I know EXACTLY How you feel. I have experienced all that you describe. I had 2 MAJOR depressions and 17 years of agorophobia, plus panic attacks. Sometimes you just want to die. All the time you feel terribly afraid that you are gonna cross some unseen bridge and fall off into insanity. Now, as I am older and have lived through so much, I understand better how my body is affected and can deal more appropriatly. Here are a few tips 1. Do take the meds. i avoided taking them for soooooo long, or sometimes I went on and off or just took little bits. I have now been on Paxil for about 8 years and have no side effects and seem to have myself back. 2. Perhaps you could ask your Doctor if Paxil might be a good chioce for you. It is the primary drug used for treating anxiety I believe. While you are waiting for the main drug to do its work ( it can take from a month and a half to 2 months to work), use xanax, aprazolam or one of those sisters to valium. I was always terrified that i would get addicted to those so I avoided them I learned in time that used in an "as needed" basis for a couple of months it made my healing come much faster. Generally I woke up at 3:00 and couldn't sleep, so instead of panicing, I would take a med and it would knock me back to sleep and help. also, if I had a panic attack I would take one. After 6 weeks I was back to myself and able to go off the tranquilizers once again.
3. Learn to accept that you have a DISEASE and don't let anyone tell you your crazy, cause you're not. Many women have a problem with depression and anxiety in our culture. I think our world is just too crazy for some of us gentler ones to handle. There is help and there are many others who know exactly what you are going through.

4. If your depression is caused by abuse or trauma, get to a GOOD counsellor once you are stablilized on the meds. Personally I wouldn't go to a counsellor until the meds are working, cause that just adds stress when you are continually electrified by panic. Instead, pretend you are inthe hospital and are getting well. Take care of yourself like a patient should be cared for... Eat well, eat goodies, watch fun movies, read fun books, avoid stressful situations, don't try to "figure out" things that are bothering you, just kick back relax and rest. If you are able to escape to a friend or parents house wherer you can be cared for.. do that. You are simply ill. Give yourself time to heal and by all means DO medicate yourself until you are well!!Health Question & Answer

First, look inside. What is causing you to worry.? Be specific. (For some situations, this may be readily apparent; other times, you may really have to think about it.) Writing in a journal or talking to a friend about it can help you sort out your feelings.

Then, decide what action, if any, should be taken. Try to figure out what part of the situation is under your control. Assess the problem to see whether the threat is real, or if you are blowing it out of proportion. If the problem is just a hypothetical situation or a worst-case scenario, decide if it is really likely that your fears will actually come to fruition.

Next, come up with a plan that tackles the part of the problem that is under your control. Taking action to protect yourself is a good way to channel nervous energy and provides reassurance against your fears. It is, in most cases, the healthiest response to realistic fears and worries.

Once you have done all you can, just let it go. Like everything in life, this is easier said than done, but with practice, you can get pretty adept at letting go of excessive levels of stress and anxiety. You can do this by focusing on something else, reminding yourself of the solutions you have worked on, or trying some stress management strategies that can help you feel more centered and at peace, such as prayer or meditation, journaling about your feelings, or listening to music. Getting regular exercise has been found to be especially helpful in combating the physical effects of anxiety and stress.
If you still find yourself concerned on a constant basis, you may want to talk to someone about it, either a friend, or a professional, depending on how severe your worry is and how much it is affecting your overall stress level. The same way you are we deal with it without really knowing we are. We have anxiety and think its the end or we are on edge and feel like we are going to go crazy but we never do.. and thats what makes me stop and think that everything will be okay one day. All these things I worry about that I feel I'm going insane, have never happened and probably never will.. Eventually you get tired of wondering and thinking "Todays the day I find out I have this or todays the day this happens I know it" and you know what I end up going to bed and waking up the next day and nothing ever happened. You will be normal again, we all will if we try hard at it. My advice to you is to either take the Klonopin for the time being to help get you to that stage where you realize that you don't need it, or not take it and stop stressing about it so that you can slowly work on everything starting with your depression. Best of luck!Health Question & Answer

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.

But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

CARDIO! It takes more than just once or twice but it works! You are best to do this outdoors because its Serene. Start by taking long walks [ex. a long walk is at least 4 miles] this might look like a lot but its not. You need to be out there long enough to tire your body plus feel tired but yet great in your mind. Put on a pair of headphones with new batteries, grab some gum and comfortable clothes and shoes. I had begun this several years ago and now jog 5 miles most days and no longer take meds for my anxiety. Do this at least every other day and you will feel better with each time... but be careful, its addicting :) Good luck!Health Question & Answer
