Why are some people so down on medication ?!

Question: Why are some people so down on medication .?
It saved my life. I don't recommend it for everyone and am glad that people can choose other options, but I am very glad that my quality of life has greatly improved with the use of medication and as far as side effects go, it's a case of weighing pro and con and I don't want to be severely mentally ill all the time.

So.. my question again. Why are people so down on medication if it can make someone's life worth living.? No one should have to be suicidal all the time. Health Question & Answer

I 100% agree with you...without this Lexapro that i started a couple months ago i still would be severely depressed...

b/c i been severely depressed since i was a teenager and i always told them i don't want to go on anything that will make me gain wieght or give me sexual side effects...

so we always went a different route with the medication that didn't do crap for me...and finally this year a couple months ago i just got so depressed that i said just put me on whatever you have to, to make me feel better.....so lexapro (among others) is what is was that changed my life like no other...i am so grateful for that medication but the only thing is that is does give some side effects id rather live with out but hey if i feel better that's all that matters and now those side effects are getting much better since i been on it a while now...!!!!! :D

so people should just not be so judge mental...

thanks for reading my answer...i feel good telling my story. and i hope i helped someone out there..Health Question & Answer

I guess because some people who need the medication are in denial. Maybe the feel that they don't need it because they don't have that certain condition that they need the medicine. As in other cases, other people tend to think that a mental illness is something that is in your head. Something that you can get over if you try hard enough. I guess there is still a lot that has to be learned about the topic before people start understanding that if it was something that you could control, wouldn't you be doing that already. I mean I don't like the fact that I have to take medication, but if that is the one thing that is keeping me on this earth then you better believe that I am gun ho for it

I agree with the person who said because they are in denial. I am definitely in denial. I personally hate being on medication, because I have tried so many of them, and nothing seems to have worked yet. For me it's also part of admitting something is wrong. I am glad that you have had a good experience with medication. I hate feeling suicidal, but medication tends to affect my ability to think. It makes my thinking very cloudy.Health Question & Answer

I think some people become disenchanted with medication because it works initially, but the person's body bcomes immune to the medicine and the beneficial effects dissipate. Based on the ineffectiveness of the medication, people frown on medication. Lithium seems to be one that works quite well for long periods of time. My wife is bi-polar. I am not, but I know of the devastating effects from the disease. God bless you in your questoo to over come this difficult illness.Health Question & Answer

Yea but did it make you deal with the very real problems and thoughts that made you that way in the first place.? Did it really fix the problems and clear your mind.? Or did it just mask the real problems and tranquilize you so you don't have to deal with the real problems anymore.?

God works slowly and we are all works-in-progresses....but I suggest slowly weaning yourself off of medication and take God's medication which is the TRUTH in his WORD!

God says.."I am not the author of a confused mind.....I am the author of a sound mind." You need to get to the roots of your real problems, and get rid of all the wrong things you were taught as a child. Learn to be a child of God now! That's what being BORN-AGAIN means.Health Question & Answer

Medication saved my life in a psychotic event. But after a few months I realized it felt bad and I couldn't think well enough The psychotic stress damaged brain cells and if they were to regrow it would be when I was chemically free and stress free. Remember silver fillings are silver powder mixed in mercury metal . One of the ways I recovered was to get all the mercury fillings changed to plastic white ones.Health Question & Answer

These are the same people who think that dental fillings are really a government plot to store America's silver supply in our mouths. They are the crazy ones. I know what you mean. I take medicine for schizoaffective and if I don't take it I hallucinate. If I don't take my lexapro I have uncontrollable social anxiety and panic attacks. Forget those people and do what is right for you.Health Question & Answer

I know that my friend and I don't take them because medication can change who you are. Chemicals are altering your mood. I am depressed, and it is a part of me, hopefully not a permanent part, but a part nonetheless. Health Question & Answer
