Can you tell me about your experience with Abilify?!

Question: Can you tell me about your experience with Abilify.?
After a lot of thought about it, my doctor prescribed me Abilify to help stabilize my mood. I will only take 5 mgs. It's added to my regular low dose of Wellbutrin and Ambien.
What did you experience during start up.? Did it make you sleepy or activated.? Do you take it day or night.?
My doctor said his patients are about 50/50 on active versus sleepy and feels I need to experiment and find what's right for me. But I have a busy week of Halloween stuff coming up and would just like opinions on the drug and what I might expect.
Thank you!Health Question & Answer

I'm on it too now for approximately 1yr now. It's helped me tremendously.I'm a rapid cycler, and it helps calm them down.I have to take it at night because my medicine makes me tired.I noticed a difference in my activity right away with it.If you have a choice when to take it,try taking it early evening. That way if you get too tired it's not a big deal, and the next day just take it according to how you responded.
Sleepy=night time, active=morning.Hope it helps with your moods like it did for me.Good luck

My husband is same dosage on this along with Cymbalta and Ambien it has made a huge difference in his mood much more stable, He is good as long as he takes it and it makes him a little tired but nothing to bothersome, it has worked for us and I sure can tell when he skips taking it trying to be hard headed lol.Health Question & Answer

My soon is on it and has been for 7 months so far' and it has been good for him.He had a littler hard time sleeping ' but after 1 week it kicked in nicely. One thing thought s they sometimes have to give other meds to make it so the negative symptoms stay away..Lots of luck to you.Health Question & Answer

Horrible. I felt like it drank 10 pots of coffee. I felt edgy, restless, and anxious. But it works differently on other people so you'd have to try it first.Health Question & Answer

You should probably take it at night because it does make you sleepy. In the long run it helps a lot with stabilizing your mood.Health Question & Answer

If you want to really be able to control your bipolar disorder, and not ruin your health over the long-term, you have to get off the drugs. Over several decades of bipolar medications, my liver is ruined. I'm 64 and in failing health; I'm on death's doorstep, wating for my liver to give up on me.

However, my friend who is also bipolar, took the smart route. He exercised regularly, eat a healthy organic diet, quit smoking and drinking, maintained a *strict* sleeping schedule, halved his work hours (to reduce stress), studied spirituality and meditation, and set up a network of friends to help maintain his moods.

Please, please, please - don't use those drugs. Abilify is a newer drug (I think), and the total side effect profile is not yet known. Health Question & Answer
