What the heck is wrong with me? (Strange sleeping problems)?!

Question: What the heck is wrong with me.? (Strange sleeping problems).?
Yeah...This happened a few times before but the last time this happened was last night.

Well, I had just gotten home from school and was really tired. I ate dinner, did my homework, etc. At 6 o clock PM I was so tired I just went to bed. I woke up again at 12:00PM. I had a snack, and tried to fall asleep. I couldn't. (I've been having trouble falling asleep for some time now, which was why I was so tired in the first place) After a while, I was just about to drift off into my dreams, but still being pretty conscious, when I started feeling strong shivers down my back. Not like I was cold...but sorta like...electricity flowing down my back. Then, It was like...I started hearing voices saying stuff (probably my thoughts) and other noises that were EXTREMELY loud. Then, my head started hurting and strange shapes and colors formed in my head flashing and stuff (my eyes were closed) And then, i'm not sure how long after this was, wasn't very though, I finally decided I wanted to get out of this and tried to move. I couldn't move my body. I tried to talk, but I couldn't move my mouth or speak. I could breathe louder though, but it didn't feel like I was the one breathing exactly...it's hard to explain. Finally, I "Broke" free of this strange trance and got out of bed. I drank some orange juice and went to sleep upstairs.

This wasn't a dream. It's happened more than once, but this time was horrible. In this past this thing has stopped me from falling asleep, because as soon as I feel that shiver down my back and those colors flashing in my eyes it feels like i'm consciously slipping into a very scary horrible dream.

Aside from this, I have another sleeping "incident" I'd like help on. It was in a dream, and I don't remember exactly what happened, but I do remember that it was something like my back literally bending backwards. The thing was, I actually felt the pain. It was beyond excruciating. It felt so strangely real.. (Even though I know it wasn't ^^)

Oh, and one more thing...i've experienced this a few times too. It happened with the lower part of my leg. When I was about to fall asleep (or close to that) my leg started...hurting really badly, but in a very peculiar way. It felt like how it feels when you tighten your leg muscle but it felt like It was being tightened way too far. It hurt not long, only a minute or two.? But it hurt.

Yeah...there's a lot of stuff that's wrong with my sleep...and I really need some help with it because I have to go to sleep tonight...Going to a doctor isn't really an option for me...so please don't ask for me to.
Oh, and i'm 15 yrs old. Thanks alot.Health Question & Answer

Yeah I agree, the leg thing sounds exactly like a charlie horse. (a REALLY bad cramp in your leg that takes a minute to go away. Everyone gets those.) But the other things sound serious. I know you already said it wasn't a dream, but that is exactly what it sounded like to me--like when you are in between being awake and being asleep. But if you say it is NOT a dream, then you DEFINITELY need to see a doctor. Why do you say it is not an option for you.?.? Your parents don't have insurance or something.?.?.? You need to see a doc seriously. It could be something serious that could escalate if left untreated. You never know.

Otherwise, try not to drink/eat anything with caffeine in it before you lay down, or at least several hours before you go to bed. Even if you sleep eight hours a night, if you have caffeine in your system while you are asleep it can cause you to feel like you got no sleep at all after you wake up eight hours later. Caffeine could also be to blame for your headaches. AND your cramps. Caffeine is bad for you :(. If this is not what is causing your problems, go to the doc right away.Health Question & Answer

Wow, this seems like a pretty serious sleep disorder. I mean, I know you don't want to, or can't see a doctor, but for Christ's sake, SEE A DOCTOR. I'd think you would draw the line at hallucinations and excruciating pain.

Some hospitals have sleep disorder divisions. Basically, they hook you up with a whole bunch of sensors, and you spend the night there.Health Question & Answer

Well, the last set of symptoms you mentioned (in your leg) are definitely due to cramp - you gave an exact description of what happens during a leg cramp.

If you either walk around, rub the back of your leg to heat it up or flex your toes towards your shin, the pain should begin to disappear. However, cramp is quite literally the muscle in your leg briefly tensing and so can still hurt/ache for up to 24 hours afterwards.

And as for the other symptoms, I know this probably isn't the answer you want to hear, but they are most likely dreams, as vivid and real as they might seem. Try to relax before you sleep - 'wind down'. Don't use your computer or watch tv for 30 mins to an hour so that your mind can begin to rest. In addition, try to have a hot bath or shower to relax your muscles before you sleep - this should help with both the cramp and disrupted sleep.Health Question & Answer

no you are not insane! but I must say wow, you are having real bad sleeping problems, and you are only 15 years old. I think that you should please tell your parents about it. I strongly think that you should get professional help, maybe you don't need medications, just some good phychological therapy. These therapies are very good.
Talk to your parents, and try to identyfy what is it that is bothering you...and please don't reject to see a doctor, he will help you, you may only have to see him for some month:) take care. you will be fine. Tonight, when you go to bed, relax, tink about positiv ethings, or about that guy that you like. call him.... pray to god... breathe deeply, and say to yourself, don't worry it's all sigmtoms of axiety and nothing is going to hahpen to me.. Best wishes. toningt I will pray for you!!!Health Question & Answer
