It has to start in the head. You have to make a decision to change your life. Noone or nothing will change it for you. I hate running with a passion, but I get my shoes on, walk out the door, and run because it is good for me, and once I get out there, it clears my mind and I feel so much better afterward.

Go find some friends. Go look for a job. Or perhaps go back to school. Get your GED like I did and go to a tradeschool or community college. Apply for financial aid. I go to a community college and have received enough aid each semester that I don't have to pay a penny out of pocket. Of course you have to pay it back once you graduate, but if you find good work afterward, no big deal.

Don't wait for good feelings to fly your way. It won't happen. You have to get the willpower and desire to change your life. When you let yourself wallow in your depression, you only dig your hole deeper because it is hard for people to be friends with you due to your personality and as long as you don't have any hope for yourself, nothing will change.

Have some hope my friend. Just get up and do it--your only option other than going to a medical professional to determine if there is a physical cause for your depression and treat it with medicine.Health Question & Answer

Exercise doesn't cure depression but it can help you to feel better.

Exercise released endorphins - "happy hormones" - in your brain which make you feel good. Losing weight or becoming more physically fit can also help you build your confidence, which can make you more outgoing and help you to meet new people or to effectively manage new situations.

Being in the outdoors in general is good for you because it gives you the opportunity to absorb vitamin D from the sun. Vitamin D is associated with overall degree of happiness and not getting enough of it can leave you depressed.

It sounds like you may have clinical depression. Simply exercising and getting fresh air may not be enough for you. You may need to talk to a medical professional about antidepressants. Getting on the medication may be enough to alleviate your depression so that you can start doing other things you might like, starting with the exercise and meeting new people.Health Question & Answer

My doctor prescribed antidepressants for me 2 years ago.

On top of this he also said get at least 30 mins of OUTSIDE activity every day.

This is because;

1. It does get feel good endorphins flowing
2. Being in the sunshine helps your body generate Vitamin D which also helps combat depression
3. Funny as it sounds, exercising actually makes you feel more energetic.

If you dont want to 'exercise' as such, just go plonk yourself down on a park bench somewhere. The fresh air and sunshine will help i promise!

I second the person who said learn an instrument.

I won't go into details but my passion for music has brought me through some terrible times. Trust me, your issues are not unique.

If not music, find any hobby you can be passionate about. From there, things will start falling into place (you'll make friends through your hobby, you'll be energized to get a job etc. etc.)

Edit: The point is not being good at the instrument, the point is doing something you can feel passionate about. That lays the foundation for other things like I mentioned above.Health Question & Answer

First of all you have everything in the world to live for. You have to remember you have family who love you and it would be selfish to say that you have nothing to live for unless you do not love them back! Exercise is a great way to relieve stress and it helps with depression. Begin my taking brief walks then add hand weights while you walk and increase exercise weekly! You will feel better before you know it! Health Question & Answer

Exercise is supposed to get the endorphins flowing.

If you have no energy, start off with doing like 3 minutes of exercise, then work your way up to doing it longer.Health Question & Answer

Working on a home gym isn't the same as taking a 20 min. walk outside everyday. Once the endorphins kick in, you experience a neww and better reality. Just try it for one week.Health Question & Answer
