Depression at University?!

Question: Depression at University.?
I am now studying my masters degree, and like in my previous incarnations as a student. when I spend all my time doing the work, and when I am in my university accommodation I get depressed, melancholic about everything and just slight miserable. Is it simply a case of all work no play makes jack a dull boy Health Question & Answer

I'm in Law School can sympathize with you. (up to 40% of law students graduate with some form of depression) It's the nature of the beast to some extent, but there is a lot to be said for making sure you are doing all you can to not let your mental health decline in times of great mental stress.

Find an outlet, whether it be with a group of other students, or an activity that you enjoy doing alone. Universities are more cognizant of this problem these days, and they may have support services to help you. (clinics, seminars, mental health awareness days, etc.)

My first year, I used to go bowling with my roommate one night a week, now I play ping pong on campus during study breaks. I also have a almost weekly poker game going with classmates.

Just find something, no matter how simple it may be.Health Question & Answer

My suggestion would be to very carefully budget your time. If you're ok with it, only do the work you need to get the grades you're satisfied with. I could be an all A student, but I settles for Bs so that I can also have a social life and not end up hating all my classes. It's a bit of a risk, but I would recommend it if you think you can handle it (if you're not a perfectionist, I guess).Health Question & Answer

Give yourself a day in the week to unwind and do everything you cant do while you are studying, this might be relaxing to music for a few hours or just going shopping or something.Health Question & Answer
