Just not feeling myself.?!

Question: Just not feeling myself..?
I hope someone can help. For the past 4 weeks I've been feeling really tired to where I feel I could sleep for days straight, emotional complaining about little things, crying out of the blue and I'm now losing my appetite to eat. My work is not that stressful and my home life is doing fine, yet I feel so yucky. Does anyone have any idea what it could be. I almost quit my job because I thought it would be better for everyone. Depression! Sometimes you can get depressed even if you don't feel that stressed. Or sometimes it could be something that's bothering you emotionally that, as crazy as this sounds, you may not even know about. I know this past year has been stressful for me, I even have trouble remembering it, my therapist says I'm blocking it out as a defense mechanism. [I had an emotionally abusive boyfriend but I guess I just wasn't really aware of how bad it was actually getting..]

What you're describing sounds exactly like depression but you should go to the doctor just to rule out anything else. I'm going for a blood test in a couple of days. You could be lacking something in your diet, like iron. Or not getting enough of something. But I'm almost 100& positive it's depression and if it, you're going to be fine. I know it's scary but you should think about seeing a therapist. Even maybe go just a couple of times, tell her/him everything that's happening to you. They'll be able to explain what's going on alot better than anybody on yahoo answers.

For now, try to distract yourself. Sometimes doing stuff you used to enjoy, like everybody says, could actually make it worse..atleast in my opinion. Because the last time I was doing whatever it was, I was happy, not feeling shitty like I do now. So instead I think maybe you should try taking up something totally new, something maybe you've never been into before. Like pottery, painting, planting a garden, writing, whatever. At first you're going to be like I don't even want to do this, this sucks, I'm too tired...but believe me, once you start getting into it, it'll help I promise.

I've been in your shoes plently of times and I've actually felt a lot worse than you, if that makes you feel any better haha. You're going to be fine, I PROMISE, this is just a phase, a sucky one, but definitely a phase you're going through right now. First, I would suggest you see your regular MD. A number of health problems (e.g., hypothyroidism) mimic the symptoms of depression. It's worth it to rule out any physical cause.

Other than that, sounds like a fairly classic case of depression, Major Depressive Disorder, I would guess. Depending on your preference, I suggest you either see a therapist (psychologist, advanced practice nurse, licensed social worker) or a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist can prescribe meds is you are agreeable (so can an Advanced practice nurse). What you're going through often doesn't resolve on it's own.

Depression (the illness, not feeling 'depressed') is a form of brain disease. Your neurotransmitters are out of whack. They need to be whacked back into place. Antidepressants (don't worry, there are some really excellent ones now) can work wonders if prescribed appropriately by a responsible health professional.

Word of advice: If you're drinking or doing any drugs- stop. Alcohol is a depressant. Other drugs cause a big "crash" when the they're gone. gone.Health Question & Answer
