I'm a male in my late 20s with no history of mental illness, could this be a signal of a psychotic break?!

Question: I'm a male in my late 20s with no history of mental illness, could this be a signal of a psychotic break.?
Running water really agitates my mind. The first time it happened was a running dishwasher, but it also happens in the shower. Especially if I haven't had a lot of sleep.

I feel a lot of anxiety and it feels like there are voices in my head just yelling at me. It's hard to explain, but I feel like my mind is screaming. I get very tense.

I have no history of mental illness, but my sister was manic depressive. I am in a very stressful Graduate Program, and may suffer form some level of depression.

What could this be, and should I be concerned.?Health Question & Answer

Mental health conditions do tend to run in families. From what you've said, it's possible you may have some kind of anxiety issue. It's probably mild right now, but there's always a risk it could get more serious.

When you get tense and anxious like that, are you able to control yourself, calm yourself down easily.? Does the running water ever prevent you from doing the things you have to do in a day.?

If it's interfering with your daily life and/or it's hard to control, talk to a doctor.Health Question & Answer

I think it's BP disorder . Fans, water running , mortorcycles reving, drive me CRAZY. Stress aggravates it. There is alot of good med out there for it. Lithium is cheap and works as well as the new pricey ones.

I think that some klonopin might help you out in this time of your life. I take 1mg three times a day as needed. It helps keep my stress under control and keeps weird things like "your mind screaming at you" under control when you're near water.

I'd say that it will go away eventually, but if after a few months of a low grade benzo and fluctuating stress you still hear that-- THEN you should check something out. I do think that genology takes into affect when it comes to the mental psyche. It's good that you keep that in the base of your mind, but don't dwell on it. Just because your sister was diagnosed as manic depressive, doesn't mean you will develop that exact condition or something else. Health Question & Answer
