I dont want to be suicidal anymore... but i dont know what to do...im scared!?!

Question: I dont want to be suicidal anymore... but i dont know what to do...im scared!.?
okay this is really embarrassing, but im tired of living like this. i am 18 years old and i need help. i am severely depressed and i think that i may be bipolar. i also think that i have nerve problems. sometimes i wet the bed and this is not normal. im 18. i went to the doctor about the bedwetting issue and she put me on that desmopressin acetate, or DDAVP. you take those pills at night and ive been taking them for about 4 months and they worked. but i dont have anymore of them and i am in college and that would be so embarrassing if i wet the bed because i have a room-mate.
i am going to go back to the doctor and i think that im going to talk to her about the depression and bi-polar issues. i am scared and i dont know whats going to happen. i dont even know what to say to the doctor. any advice, tips, or personal stories would be beneficial. i am not crazy, im just scared of whats gonna happen once i tell the doctor this.Health Question & Answer

First off I admire your courage to post about this, even if it is anonymous. It is never too late to change. Change is only limited to what you are determined to overcome. Ultimately the goal here must be to get to a point where you can get off pills and medication and live a healthy life. I've gone through all sorts of trials and tribulations only to come out stronger.
Change from low self-esteem and depression required two things from me. The first was a determination to understand why I was the way I was, and secondly to maintain the firm belief that change was possible; in a sense, to never give up no matter how dire my mind or situation became. There are times when I thought I had all kinds of diagnoses, which brought even more depression and anxiety. I continued to ask questions. I looked back at my past and realized a lot of my problems were due to the dysfunctional family that I grew up in. I didn't receive the positive encouragement and reinforcement that was necessary to have a positive image of myself. I was bullied in school and thus remained shy and in silence. I continued to ask questions and research things I didn't understand. I refused to accept a life of being depressed with low self-esteem.
It seems to me there must be something going back to your childhood, but only you can answer that.
I never believed a doctor could help me. What would they do.? Prescribe me some medication to satisfy everyone and then on to the next patient. Only I could figure out why I was the way I was.
It helped me to read about people that overcame adversity. Life is way too short to fear or be depressed, way too short. We are like the grass that grows one minute and withers the next. A flash of light that is seen and then disappears into the night. Health Question & Answer

I find just talking to my friends helps heaps. :} . Why don't you talk to me to relieve some of the stress.? I dunno if I'll be any help but I'll try to listen the best I can.

If not, just tell the doctor the truth, I guess. I'm scared stiff of doctors - an irrational fear of mine - so I've never done what you have but they're there to help. Just let them know and let them do their job. I don't think you're crazy, so why should they.?Health Question & Answer

Go to see the doc-
Follow all his instructions-
ALL THE "ONCE SUICIDAL PEOPLE ARE HERE TO TELL US THAT THEY ARE GLAD THEY DID NOT COMMIT SUICIDE.
ALL THE PEOPLE THAT DID COMMIT SUICIDE ARE NOT HERE TO SAY THEY WISH THEY HADNT.
Everything is going to be "A" ok!!!
You have a college degree to pursue- sweetie!!!
and thats going to be just the beginning of an interesting life!!Health Question & Answer

Let the doctor know right from the beginning the your are nervous to talk about your problems but be honest with the doctor otherwise they will not be able to help you and you know yourself that you need help that is the first step good luck Health Question & Answer

Your not going to kill yourself
Or you already would have

If you dont like your life, change it
See the world... forget about money just travel and meet new people
Maybe join the military they could help youHealth Question & Answer

DON'T COMMIT SUICIDE!!! That would be terrible. Why are you depressed.? You don't have to tell me, but if you figure it out and find a way to resolve it, that would help immensely. Of course, you know that, but I mean really think about it. Is it rational.? Is worth ending your life over.? No.
I don't have a clue what bipolar means, so I can't necessarily help you on that issue.
Wetting the bed.? What the heck, dude.? That's not all that bad. My DAD says he wets the bed sometimes. Just go get some more medicine and keep taking it.
Just tell the doctor your having depression problems and she'll do nothing but help. I know that's got to be difficult (especially if you're like me and have a phobia of talking to people) but if you're suicidal, please get help with that. One more death in the world will only hurt it more. And Earth is already such a suffering-filled and depressed place.Health Question & Answer

First of all don't be embarassed. Depression & bi-polar are not an easy thing to deal with. I suffer from depression & anxiety. You probably do have some nerve problems since you do wet the bed. Somebody very close to me wet the bed until this person was 24 years old! There wasn't anything physically wrong with this person and mentally this person later in life did have a small break down though this person is doing great now. I have heard my friends' story about wetting the bed and how embarrasing it was for them. So don't think for 1 second your the only 18 year old who still wets the bed. There is nothing to be ashamed about or embarassed. I would def. try to get back on those ddavp pills since they did work. Try not to drink anything about 3 hours before you go to sleep also and if you need wear an adult undergarments that they sale at like Wal-mart. They can be very discreet and your room mate will never know.

Going back to your doctor to discuss your depression & bi-polar is a very good idea. Don't be scared your doctor is there to help you. Warning though if you do tell your doctor your suicidal (and I don't mean saying you have suicidal thoughts now and then) I'm talking about saying to her or him "I feel suicidal at this moment" then they have no choice but to put you in a mental hospital for atleast 3 days. Other then that just be honest and open with your doctor. The more he or she knows the better your doctor can treat you.

Your doctor WILL NOT think your crazy. Being depressed & bi-polar doesn't mean your crazy. It means that your just depressed and you can swing in out of depression & manic feelings. It is really common and I'm sure your doctor has heard many of her or his patients with the same thing your going through. I truly feel for you, depression is a very scary thing. Depending on your doctor you may get an array of responses. I would be truly hesitant if he/she simply wrote another prescription. I would ask for information on local mental health resources such as free counsel ling clinics etc.

I am going to assume the doctor is intelligent and cares. If So they should ask about your lifestyle, eating habits, how severe the depression is ie( are you thinking of hurting/ have you hurt yourself.

A prescription for drugs should only come with other resources, or else you'll just end up drugged and depressed!

also take a look at what resources are available at your school there are often great mental health resources on campuses.

By the way don't be ashamed of bringing this to a doctor it's what your supposed to do.

Here's a personal story for you...

In high school a good friend started to get really messed up all the time drinking and doing coke. Not just kinda messed up....really messed up to where he lost a lot of friends and was a total goon. Turned out when he finally got help, he was diagnosed with bi=polar and had unknowingly been trying to self medicate his feelings. But the drugs and alcohol had already done some significant damage. Talk to a doctor and a friend or family member who can help guide you through.

I think you should tell your doctor. She is not there to judge you but to help you.

As far as the bedwetting issue is concerned, what I know is that the more scared you are of it, the more likely it'll happen. I don't know if you are male or female, but I had a girl friend who had that problem and she used to put on sanitary pads at night. That way she wasn't all stressed out at night. With time her bedwetting almost stopped.

What I mean to say is that bedwetting is highly related to stress. The more you worry about it the worse it is. Talk about it to your roommate. I'm pretty sure she'll understand. And also it'll ease out the fear that you have about her finding out.Health Question & Answer

Here is a place where you can call and ask your questions. They often speak with people who are depressed and suicidal, or many other types of problems. The counselors will speak with you briefly by phone and from there, will refer you to a licensed counselor in your area of the US.
The number: 1-800-NEWLIFE

If you are feeling suicidal right now you can also call 911. They will talk with you and help you to be safe tonight.

When you do call your Dr's office for an appointment, the wise thing to do is to tell the receptionist that this is very urgent / you've been suicidal and need to see the Dr ASAP. The most likely thing is that you will be "worked-in" to see the Dr that day or the next.Health Question & Answer

A doctor won't care or understand nor would they be able to help you. All a doctor would do is tell you to see a psychologist or pyschiatrist and all they would do is waste your time talking about your day and offering NO ADVICE as if you have the answers, you just don't see them, when if fact you are IGNORANT and that is the problem. Ignorant of how the emotions work, how the interrelate and how to deal with them effectively.
