Keep yourself busy so that you don't think about cutting. Play games, talk to people on the phone or online, read a book you enjoy. Do things that make you happy and keep you distracted. Give someone you trust the item(s) you normally use to cut and don't allow yourself to ask for them back.
I used to have a similar problem except I didn't cut, I burned. I used lighters to burn myself and after a really bad episode, I gave my lighters to my friends that I trusted the most and gave them a general idea about what was going on. Then I didn't allow myself to buy any more. That really helped me.Health Question & Answer

Do not stay by yourself. Spend time with someone you like.
If you can, tell someone you are having a hard time and need to be with people. You could even invite a friend to spend the night.

Call a friend, go shopping, talk to neighbors, get a new hobby, find a good tv show to watch or play a computer game.... Do not sit there thinking of it or else you will end up doing it... Get your mind occupied on other things.Health Question & Answer
Your area should have a crisis hot line. Look in the front of your phone book. They will talk you through it for today. And they will refer you to a counselor.Health Question & Answer
