Adult onset social anxiety disorder?!

Question: Adult onset social anxiety disorder.?
When i was younger 17-22 i was the life of the party. I was always the one that people would say was the most outgoing and fun to be around. I could drink with the best of em and i could stay up all night and feel fine the next day.
I am now 28 and I would rather sit alone in my car than do anything else. I love my morning drive to work because it is peaceful. I don't like concerts or any social activity for that matter. I love to be with my wife and 2 girls. I am ok at my in laws house. Other than that....I would rather be home.
Is this all in my head or does this sort of thing happen to people.?Health Question & Answer

This is a typical reaction. You needed to mature a little bit, and now you have. Enjoy this period of your life when cocooning or nestbuilding serves as your primary source of joy; others try to fight it and remain immature, causing all kinds of havoc in the process.

You will move on from here into the period where you want to accomplish things, then where you want recognition, then where you want to create a legacy, etc. These are all human stages and we show our true character by how gracefully we manage them and the transitions between them.

This type of change is entirely typical. You really didn't say anything that indicates social anxiety, just a preference for family. You are now a family man. That is usually what happens.

If however, you're having really significant anxiety symptoms when in public it may be more. It is possible to develop such a disorder in adulthood. Anxiety disorders can develop at anytime. Health Question & Answer

Maybe you are just stressed out from job, wife, kids, etc, and want and need time to relax at the end of the workday and this is not as much as social anxiety disorder as a state of being constantly taxed like much of the adult population in America is today!Health Question & Answer

Wow! I'm in the same boat! not 100% but very similar! Sounds like depression I'd seek the help of a professional. They would know what to do. You can find peace in that too!Health Question & Answer
