Most people will say that tickling, or at least the response from tickling, is really us responding to being nervous and anxious. Thus, we chuckle and laugh and squirm. I'm sure you've been tickled before and HATED it, as I have, but lack the ability to actually stop laughing enough to say how much you hate it or how painful it is.

Personally, I love being tickled, but then I'm a bit out of the ordinary. Most people's laughter when they're tickled isn't really a sign of happiness but rather fear or nervousness. What I find curious might be said to come from the other side. Even with my delight in being tickled, there's still that instinctive reflex of self-protection to attempt to evade it that I usually must stifle consciously. Interesting.Health Question & Answer
