Do swimmers have less brain cells?!

Question: Do swimmers have less brain cells.?
I read up on some stuff and its said that Holding your breath decreases flow of oxygen to the brain witch kills brain cells. Now for swimmers who hold there breath under water for a living doesn't that mean they have way less brain cells than a person that doesn't swim.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Their bodies physically adapt to use oxygen more efficiently, which is why they're able to hold their breath for so long- Just like how people living in low oxygen high-altitude climates adapt.

also, you'd have to kill off a lot of brain cells to have even a minimal impact on intelligence. You're basically talking brain damage here. That's not going to happen from swimming, trust me.

Interesting question, though.Health Question & Answer

It is partly true. Believe it or not less brain cells can usually help someone with anxeity/mental social issue recover themselves from misery.

I believe this from my own experience.. When i was a kid, I love to hold my breathe. I hold it once for nearly 2 minutes and my heart where still on pumping hard and was doing it again and again. gave me a headache and let me tell you, try forcing to do this and you know what im talking about.

For teh swimmers thing, it depends on a swimmer. Depends on bodyweight, Healthiness, mental focus all this can make a difference to a swimmer. But if the actual swimmer cant swim for sh*t and not doing the combination of swimming right, yes he could loss a few if he continue.

I have to agree with the first poster. Unless there's a head injury from hitting there head on the board or the end of the pool. There would be no loss of brain cells. Other then outside influences drugs, alcohol etcHealth Question & Answer
