Is this a panic attack (when I think of death)?!

Question: Is this a panic attack (when I think of death).?
For some strange reason I've noticed I'm thinking about death a lot lately. It's only been for about the past couple months.

I'll start thinking about death and how eventually, I will be nothing and know nothing and that empty thought scares me so instantly that I just immediately tense up. I'll notice seconds later that my eyes water - as if I'm crying, but not actually crying. My throat also generally starts to feel heavy but this could be a body reaction to my eyes watering.

The feelings and thoughts come without warning. And they hit VERY hard in the beginning. So fast that I'll have to turn my head if I'm near people. It now takes me about 5 minutes to stop my mind from racing - I'd say it used to take 15+ minutes... I'm getting better at controling how long they last, but I need to know if it is an actual panic attack before I try to seek more help

Death is always scary - to everyone. I'm sure my reaction is normal, I just don't know why I have the intensity and why it is occuring so much and seemingly from no where.

Honestly - it reminds me of this nightmare I used to have as a kid. There weren't any scary images or monsters - but rather a 'thought' and a 'feeling'. I would be dreaming of something so huge and vast then it would become insignificant and tiny - the images were mainly shapes... squares, circles, blocks, etc. But the feeling was intense and would shake me to my core when I was younger - I would have to crawl into bed with my older brother in order to shake away the fright.Health Question & Answer

Based on your description of the speed and force with which your fears comes, it does sound like it could be a panic attack. You may want to discuss your experience with a doctor. Cognitive-behavioural therapy may help to control your negative thoughts, or Systematic desensitization might help if your fear of death is a true phobia.

A panic attack is characterized by over-whelming fright paired with physical symptoms such as pounding heart, sweating or hyperventilating.Health Question & Answer

i don't know if it is a panic attack but a couple of months ago i kept freaking out about death as well and would cry, (it happened after i watched that film 'AI') and also i totally know what u mean about the dream u got when u were little -- i used to have that too! i'd call it 'the big things' and would feel it as well sometimes when i was ill. like pushing a massive rock up a hill with a pin. (sorry if i sound weird, lol).
i wonder if it is a panic attack, i've never thought of it like that but am now wondering if i have them.?!Health Question & Answer

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

death is a very scary thing especially to think about and the same thing happens to me when i think about it how i will be gone one day and no one will remember i existed. for me its worse when i think about it at night and this is not a panic attack but its just something scary to think about.

so my advice is to keep in in the back of your mind and just hope and pray everyday that it will not happen to you or someone you love and when your day comes there is nothing you can do because it is gods will and it will be your turn to lose your life so another person can recieve theirs
