Eating disorder question?!

Question: Eating disorder question.?
would purging and making yourself throw up over something thats emotionally bothering you be qualified as bulimic..like, rarely you throw up but you throw up only when you are so emotionally upset over something.?.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
No, it would be qualliffied as self-harm. Like cutting but purging instead. Bascially why your doing that is because after someone throws up the body releases endorphins which cause a feeling of wellbeing, basically making you feel a lot better and relieveing stress. This action can lead to bullimia though

Bulimia, however, is when one purges to prevent weight gain. Although the purging might have been fueled by the body realizing that by throwing up, it can feel better. In order to get that sensation again a person may try to eat a lot in order to throw up and have the endorphin rush again. Eventually the idea that all the food is going to cause weight gain and thats were the weight aspect comes in. By then, food also becomes an addition. Food can signal pleasure points in the brain also causing you to feel good.

It becomes a cycle:
purge to release stress -> intake of food to be able to purge -> food becoming an addition -> worries about weight gain -> purge to prevent weight gain -> worries about someone finding out / having more stress -> purge to release stress. Health Question & Answer

Bulimics specifically binge eat, then often purge in some way to make up for it. If you aren't overeating, it's not bulimia, although there are other eating disorders that are possible. Purging disorder means that you purge after eating a normal amount of food. You can tell if it's an eating disorder based on whether you have a preoccupation with food and health, or whether it only occurs when you are upset about something else.

Purging doesn't have to be an eating disorder, it can also be a symptom of anxiety. The mental stress is turned into a physical reaction which can help relieve the stress for a short time, but in the long run just damages your body.

Regardless of whether it's an eating disorder or stress, you should take to someone you trust about it before it becomes a recurrent issue. If it happens a lot, counseling can help, but you could also try to distract yourself with something you find relaxing whenever you get upset.Health Question & Answer

This can be considered Bulimia, for all eating disorders are linked to an emotional disturbance. I have struggled with Anorexia Nervosa since I was 12, and the hunger pangs were my way of covering up emotional pain. The more pain from hunger, the less pain from emotions. Emotion and eating disorders go hand in hand. So, yes, purging and making yourself throw up over something thats emotionally bothering you would be qualified as bulimia.

It could be that throwing up/purging is your coping mechanism for stress. I don't know if that fits the criteria for bulimia, as that normally involves an effort to get rid of calories consumed and often involves a cycle of binging/purging.

Either way, you may want to look at trying to deal with stressful situations in a more constructive way. Try writing down what you are feeling, or doing something that makes you feel good or relaxes you. Or, talk to someone you care about and can confide in.

Probably not, probably classed more as self harming believe it or not. By throwing up you're causing harm to yourself. I suggest you see a counselor/therapist before it gets any worse.Health Question & Answer
