Cure for phone shyness?!

Question: Cure for phone shyness.?
I work in an office MOSTLY as a behind-the-scenes IT person, but sometimes they need me to make a few phone calls throughout the day. My parents never let me answer the phone as a kid, and my past two jobs haven't involved MAKING phone calls, only answering them.

I need to know if there are any tricks or techniques to reduce, or completely get rid of, my overbearing phone shyness... I have major anxiety issues and I get a nasty sick feeling when I have to make a phone call. Sometimes I even put them off to the last minute and I'm afraid I might lose my job because of it. Anything is appreciated.Health Question & Answer

Try writing down the points you will need to cover on the phone.
Write down what you need to ask.
If you are not able to get all the information you need on the phone with one phone call, it is OK to call back again and say, "I forgot to ask about ...etc." or "I forgot to tell you....etc."
As you get the information you need during the phone call, write it down so you can remember what was said.
I hope this helps. This is what I do. Good Luck. Health Question & Answer

I've been through what your experiencing and I know how you feel. The problem is that, in most cases at least, people are subconsciously afraid of being judged. Some are afraid people will be angry with you for disrupting them and others are afraid people will think badly of them.

If this seems like it might fit your case, you just have to take a deep breath and tell yourself nothing bad is going to happen. If you have a phone where you have to hit talk after you dial, dial the number, take as long as you need to calm yourself, and hit it only when you have worked up enough confidence.Health Question & Answer

Yes see your doctor for something to help you relax, that sickly feeling you get before you make the call and putting it off all clearly tells me you are really scared of doing it, I think once you do it then you become a little relaxed.?

It is the thought of doing it, you should mention this to your doctor.

I think you need therapy and a relaxant to calm you all through the day. Health Question & Answer

I agree with the first answer, and you should be at ease to know that the person the the other side of the receiver can not see you and probably doesn't care. The best way to get over a phobia or fear is to "stare it right in the face", if you get my drift. The more you talk on the phone, the more you will become comfortable with it and the less fear you will have. also you self esteem will sky rocket!!!Health Question & Answer

I used to be this way as well. Just remember, people on the other end of the phone have no idea who you are, you are just a name connected to a voice for them. This doesn't mean you should be rude or anything, just know that for the most part you are anonymous.

good luck :)Health Question & Answer
