Should I get a pet to keep me company?!

Question: Should I get a pet to keep me company.?
So basically I'm wondering whether or not I should get a pet to keep me company. I've not really got any friends to speak of and I'm not to great with people, I get pretty lonely and bored by myself and I've realistically got little hope of a partner. I just though some sort of animal might help take my mind of things and keep me from questioning why I've not got any friends or girl friend.

I don't really know what animal would be good but I will say I'm not really to keen on dogs.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. If it makes any difference I'm 18 and male, as I live with my parents actually being aloud to keep an animal may be a problem but thats a different matter.

Thanks.Health Question & Answer

You don't say why you have not got friends.

You also say that you won't get a girlfriend.

Why.?

You are only 18, why can't you join a club, or volunteer for something.? That way you will meet lots of people.

Are you working.?

A dog needs a lot of attention and walks-they are lovely to own, but need to be part of a family.

A cat is more independent and will curl up with you, but it needs to be neutered so it won't go too far.

also, you need to take into consideration regarding vet bills-very expensive!

Whatever you decide-Go out and get some life-you have the ability to get some friends, so go out of your comfort zone and go for it!!

Good luck to you xHealth Question & Answer

You need to decide if you actually want to keep and care for a pet first. A pet is a living being and requires care-it's not just a toy you can pick up when you're bored-it's a little more like having a child. Dogs are pretty high maintenance and since you're not too keen on them maybe a cat would do better. Why don't you look up care requirements for a cat and determine if that's something you can commit to first and then by all means go adopt one-there are plenty that need a home.Health Question & Answer

I have a cat and he is great company. He really cheers me up when i'm feeling down. You have to think about whether or not you can afford to keep an animal, there's vet bills, anti flea treatment, anti worm treatment etc. My cat is an indoor cat as I live on a very busy road. He's fine with not going outside, he has a litter tray and i have a litter disposal unit so there's no smell. Cats can be very affectionate and are a great addition to a family. Hope you can get one.Health Question & Answer

Start with a parakeet. Teach it to talk. You do not have so much to care for with birds like you would a dog or cat. You don't have to get it spayed or neutered and there is no leash law. You don't have to bathe it. The study of birds is an exciting field. Listening to the songs of birds is more. So, get a bird. Health Question & Answer

cats are wonderful pets =)Health Question & Answer

A cat is probably Your best answer, they are much less maintenance than a dog, you don't have to walk them! Mine are such a comfort to me, they just want to eat, use the litter box(than can be a stinky pain), and purr.

Cats make your blood pressure go down(so do other pets like dogs), and can take your mind off the worse problems in the world. I have this one cat that is 17years old and she still is my best friend, I will mourn her when she dies. They get to be like members of the family, a best Friend.

Make sure that where you live, that you can have a pet. (when you move out, if you do) If not, your doc can write you a note that you can keep your pet, most landlords abide by this rule, especially if you are living alone.

Good luck and I hope this helps with your decision! ~*.*~Health Question & Answer

Dogs can be hard work as puppy's but once mature if you get the right breed they are excellent companions. You have to bond with a dog to like it so if you do decide to look at one,go for the one you are instantly attracted to.You won't be alone if you have to go out and most dogs are quite loyal and loving.
As long as you don't get a huge breed, the attic will be fine as long as your dog gets regular exersice.Health Question & Answer
