HELP!!!! on holiday and forgot my meds (antidepressants for anxiety)?!

Question: HELP!!!! on holiday and forgot my meds (antidepressants for anxiety).?
I am on holiday for 3 weeks and forgot to bring my antidepressant meds (flouxetine). i was fine for the first few days but i have suddenly become very, very anxious.
I take the flouxetine for panic attacks and agoraphobia. I am in the USA and am many miles away from home (I live in the UK) so an attack of agoraphobia is really NOT a good thing... I can't eat anything at the moment because I am so anxious and I am not enjoying my holiday at all.
Would I have to pay a lot of money if I went to a doctor.? Or is there anything I can take (over the counter meds) that will reduce my anxiety for now.?
Please help!!! THanks.Health Question & Answer

Just go to an "urgent care" or "convenient care" clinic. It is kinda pricy. Probably around $200. you may want to call around clinics and tell them your situation and get exact prices before you go. I don't think a dr. would have a problem writing you a prescription here and you get it filled at a pharmacy here. also, maybe they'll give you some xanax or something to help for now.The script could also be expensive, but it's worth it. I've been there before. good luck.Health Question & Answer

I did the same thing, well I extended my stay in America without enough meds to cover the extension period. I went to see a doctor and explained what had happened. They gave me samples of my meds and it cost me $80 for the consultation. Even if you do have to pay for your script they are not that expensive, you should just find a doctor and go get them. It will ruin your holiday otherwise.

Yikes, that has happened to me, but only for 3 days and it felt like forever. OTC, you could try Benadryl, but that might make you drowsy. I would go to an Urgent Care or Regular US Physician and tell them your story. You would have to pay for the visit, but you might be able to get some free sample to tide you over until you get home.Good luck to you.Health Question & Answer

your problem is your taking anti-depressants for anxiety........Health Question & Answer

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

DO NOT take any other pills (over the counter or not). These are side effects kicking in and you need to handle them correctly.

I would suggest to go see a doctor and tell him/her the situation and ask him/her to write out a prescription for flouxetine. He/she will probably give you direction son how to take them as well. I'm thinking because you've been off of them for a while you should start slowly again (half for one week, then going over to one) until you can take your regular dosage again.

Do not try anything without consulting a doctor first. Depression and anxiety is not something to toy with. The results could be life-threatening and you need to see a professional.

The other option would be to fly home and postpone your holiday.

Good luck.Health Question & Answer
