I cant sleep at night;i creep myself out a little long but please read!?!

Question: I cant sleep at night;i creep myself out a little long but please read!.?
i am 25 years old. I have pretty much always had issues with sleeping since i was little, night terrors and stuff. As i became an adult it was just tossing and turning and staring at the ceiling, so i started taking Ambien, which i quickly stopped due to the amnesiac side effects. But now here i am, laying awake everynight, thinking about ghosts, demons, i convince myself something is watching me, if my boyfriend falls asleep first, i will wake him and make him switch sides with me (I sleep on the outside, sometimes the inside makes me feel safer) I start hearing things, then i cant stop looking around the room, i look in the mirror and think i see things. Im up all hours of the night. Its becoming exhausting. No im not crazy but i do enjoy watching things like Ghost hunters and paranormal state, and the haunting.....i think it carries over into the night with me, aside from stopping watching those shows does anyone know what else i can do.? I feel like a little kid but its really effecting my life right now! Health Question & Answer

I completely understand. I know, I love Ghost Hunters! It's my favorite show! But anyways, I am afraid of the dark, also. I absolutely have to sleep with a small lamp on in the corner of my room. Maybe you should try a night light. I know it sounds silly, but trust me, it makes me feel so much safer. also, even if you are not a religious person, sleeping with a cross, or some other religious symbol, on a necklace or bracelet will also make you feel more comfortable and trusting of what's around you. Do not sleep straight across from a mirror, I believe that it reflects all your negativity back that is supposed to leave you during sleep. In fact, just take out all mirrors from your room, keep your bedroom door closed, and instead of convincing yourself there is something there, convince yourself there is nothing there. Come up with logical explanations for the sounds you hear and the things you think you see. Remember, the more you stare at something, the more it looks like something other than what it is. I once thought that a nun was slowly closing my door because the more I looked at it, the more it seemed like my door was closing. In reality it wasn't moving at all, and the black mass I saw was a actually a few coats hanging off the hook on my door. Your eyes play tricks on you, ignore what you see, it's dark. I also recommend getting a cat. I know, I have way too many tricks. Cats always make me feel safe, even more than dogs. When I am with a cat, it is like a negativity goes away. I don't know why or how, but I am sure that will make you feel better. I hope this helped, feel better please! Good luck and God bless!Health Question & Answer

Watching those shows can make your mind wonder at night. It has happened to me. I also like watching Ghost Hunters and Hauntings but whenever I get that freightning feeling that I might see something or feel something. I just close my eyes and I start praying. I tell myself that I believe in GOD and nothing can hurt me. Until I fall asleep. Your just scaring yourself by thinking so much about the fear. Start thinking about happy things or places where you have felt peace. and safe.Health Question & Answer

I know what you mean, im sort of like you. I used to think i heard a burgular outside my door and would lie in bed sweating and scared to move all night. Just tell yourself its nothing because it really is nothing. Read a book before you sleep.Health Question & Answer

You have a sleep disorder. I'd recommend going to see a specialist.

Do you experience the same thing when the lights are on.? How about if you were to attempt to nap/sleep during the day.?

i am not a religious nut or anything, but try and say the Lords prayer before you go to sleep, this will protect you from those Demons, Health Question & Answer

Ghosts aren't real, demons on the other hand are.Health Question & Answer

Well this requires your boyfriends help but I suggest maybe an eyemask for him so you can keep the light on.? Or maybe just occasionally when you're having a hard time.

To feel safer, how about one of those pillows that support the back so that you feel like you're wedged in the middle even when you're on the outside.?.? Do you think that the reason you feel so bad is that you don't feel safe and secure in life (you did mention money troubles) and so the demon issue is symbolic of the problems in your problems in life.? Not secure, that something is hanging over you etc.

I really don't know how you would go about stopping the paranoia. We just have to keep trying to ignore it.
Maybe try getting some comfy earbuds and listen to music, or even a language audio tape (CD!) as you fall asleep so your mind is not free to wander. .?

You are right though, those tv shows certainly aren't helping!!Health Question & Answer

So you have created some phobias. It is perfectly normal. You do not need a specialist. You need to realize after all the nights that you have stayed up nothing bad has happened. So even if there were all these scary ghosts in the room or in the mirror nothing happens. You are fine so next time you are all creeped out just remember nothing bad happens and close your eyes and sleep. You are fine we all have feelings like this sometime. You seem to have a little sleep anxiety. A dr. would give you xanax or something to deal with it. I really don't think you need the drug you just need the reassurance that nothing bad happens.Health Question & Answer

I do the same thing. I really like those scary shows too, so it does not help that I watch them! I always sleep with the TV and the sound just low enough that I can blame any sounds I hear on the TV. Plus I have a cat, so that is another thing to blame sounds on. You have to remember on shows like Ghost Hunters they always say that ghosts are just trying to communicate and not hurt you. Besides, those freaky ghosts are always in prisons. Plus if you have yet to experience something paranormal in your bed, you probably never will. Sometimes if I close my eye and refuse to open them I will end up falling asleep. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only 20 something with an overactive imagination. Health Question & Answer

stop doing things that will freak you out. stop watching ghost shows or horror movies...youre only making it worse. sleep with a littlke nightlight and always sleep on the inside. understand that even if there are ghosts "watching" you...thats all they can do. they cant hurt you. pretty much be like screw them. im not a very religious person, and i dont know if u r. but ill never forget my 8th grade teacher and what she told me. it stuck with me and it always helps me when i started feeling the presense of spirits around me (which makes me very uncomfrtable) i ask god to keep the spirits away from me and that im not comfortable having them around me. and then (in my head of course cuz i dont wana sound crazy) i tell them that they are not welcome and that god is protecting me. to leave. i instantly feel better. try this. next....since this has been an ongoing issue with you- i think you should speak with someone about it and analyze why you do this to yourself. you might be suprised about the outcome. good luck Health Question & Answer

I have the same problem sometimes. I remember when I first watched The Shining and it creeped me out so much I could not sleep
for a week. Even when I knew it was fake, it sort of got in my head too much. That happens whenever I watch a really scary movie, and one night I thought I saw an alien and one night I heard a ghost! It's stupid really but I can totally relate to you because sometimes I think things to scare myself and it's just something I do. After a while, it gets a little too much that I get really afraid by anything. So what I did to solve that was I started to play a game with myself and (these so called imaginary) monsters. Say if you think that you're being chased by one, you've got to do run to your bed so they can't catch you. If they want to kill you or something, you've got to put your hand on your head so they can't hurt you. I know it sounds weird (but hey I'm twelve!). Just make your imaginary horror into a game, in a way it's a bit fun because you can make up as many rules as you can. Sooner or later you'll have so many rules of these monsters not getting you, in your mind they won't be able to make you scared. You're not crazy, maybe a bit paranoid but everyone is. Maybe at night ask your boyfriend to hold you so you can feel a little more protected. Try doing this, it'll help by having these nightmares and horrors into a game. By the way I suggest don't take medication or sleeping pills, I honestly don't believe a pill can help. Health Question & Answer

Well, I too am an insomniac. When I was younger I used to do the same things with mirrors and such. I think your fear of the unseen is somewhat legitimate, I also occasionally need to turn on a light when I cant sleep. The thing is we cant discount the fact that there may be things in the shadows, though I have yet to see one. Facing your fears and investigating noises, sleeping on the outside of the bed, etc could really help you out. I also watch a lot of paranormal shows and I think they actually help you asses your fears, you should listen to coast to coast am. In the its really normal to fear the dark, you just need to get more of a grip. In the end that's all I can tell you, besides good luck with your sleeping.Health Question & Answer

john 3:16...i believe that you have a spiritual calling on your life and the devil knows it.If you have not excepted Jesus Christ into your life I implore you to do it now. I'm a true witness that it will stop and you will sleep like a baby. Please just ask Jesus to be your saviour and wash you clean of your sins and come into your life and He will abolish those tormenting thoughts.
Remember this: out of those other "gods" Jesus Christ is the only one that has proven the tests of time.
Try Jesus on...I guarantee he fits.Health Question & Answer
