Question: Old Rape Case - I as the victim don't remember being in court..?
February of 2004 i went to court when i was 14. I had to go to court to testify ageist rapist. Yes i was the victim. But after watching L.M.N there was a similar case. They kept calling her retarded because she was a special education student like me. to the point.
I barely remember going to court. I remember being aware. I don't even remember staying at my grandmas, or even the flight, not even if they asked me questions. I remember talking, but no questions. I don't even remember walking to the chair or getting off. I recall doing the "rise your right hand" thing. But. When i look at it now. I don't recall anything at all. Nothing!
What do you think caused my brain to have memory dump of this memory.? Its not like i WANT to remember, but I'm very curious why i don't remember it.Health Question & Answer

You've probably repressed it. You were young and you probably were scared and nervous, so your brain just decided to say "Oh we don't want to remember this happening to me!"
You probably won't remember what happened unless something jogs your memory (being in the same court room, or see the rapist again).

Well it was 4 years ago. Being in court as a victim of rape is a traumatic experience! Your brain selectively decides not to remember some traumatic things as a coping mechanism.
also, as you get older you realize how hard it is to remember events from 4 years ago. I graduated high school 4 years ago...I remember graduating, but I specifically remember walking up to get my diploma,what I did before the ceremony, who spoke at the graduation ceremony, etc. Sometimes you just forget the details, even for important events in your life. Don;t know if that was a bad thing to not recall it. Just make sure all your limbs are still there, your head is on straight, you got 10 fingers and 10 toes, and you can walk and talk. If all that checks out, you're OK by me.Health Question & Answer
