I don't have enough medication?!

Question: I don't have enough medication.?
I have depression. I've tried to commit suicide many times. I've been better recently and I'm on 40mg fluoxetine. I've never once missed taking it, but I realised I don't have any for this weekend. Obviously the doctors aren't open so I can't get my prescription.

Will going without anti-depressants affect me, especially seeing as I've had a really bad thing happen today.?Health Question & Answer

I don't know if you'd feel sad but its not worth the riskHealth Question & Answer

People often miss a day of taking their anti-depressants and it usually doesnt do too much harm. Im actually on 40mg fluoxetine too and on the leaflet in the box it says if you miss one day to just take it as normal the next. I suspect missing too days increases the risk of you mood dropping as the drug wont be in your system for a day.

Perhaps it might be helpful to phone NHS direct and see if there is anyway you can get some more fluoxetine, like from your local hospital.

If not though all you can do is your best to try and keep yourself feeling okay, keep yourself busy so you have less time to focus on negative feelings and spend time with people who make you happy.

Good luck.Health Question & Answer

Well, I have depression too, but my psychiatrist is afraid to give me meds, because I just turned 13 over the summer, and I only started going to see her last week, so were trying talk therapy. So I'm not sure what that will make you feel like, but if you're worried, drive yourself to the hospital and tell them. Or hurry up and call your doctor for a prescription, and run to the pharmacy now. It's still friday. If you can't get any, and you feel really bad this weekend, call 911 or the suicide hotline. Or drive to the emergency room. It might seem stupid, but if your life is in danger, you have to do it.Health Question & Answer

Im on 300 mgs of Efexor and missed it for 72 hours i just felt bit shaky ,bit sick all manageable, but call nhs direct- better still let your gp phone go to answer phone there should be a emergency number,i had to do this at a weekend to get more meds,i got put through to some switchboard ( in london i am) and they ring you back after you give some details and then i was sent to a clinic called harmony a bit like a nhs walk in clinic and sawa doctor and i got the extra meds,if not dont worry your be fine, relax stay off the booze and go mondayHealth Question & Answer

Yes it will affect you, I'm on effexor xr and if I miss even one day I get shaky and get nauseous and a headache. Usually doctors have an after office hours call number for such an emergency. Try this and if you can't get a hold of anyone call the pharmacy, they know how to get in contact with physicians at all times. If neither of these methods work you may just have to work through the withdrawal symptoms, if they get too out of control (ie. suicidal thoughts) go to the emergency room immediately!!Health Question & Answer

Fluoxetine Stays in your system for awhile. It's just 2 days. You should be fine. Worst case, you go to emergency room and let them know you are feeling terrible, ran out of meds and maybe they can give you samples until you see your doctor. But you really should be Okay. I take 60mg a day of Fluoxitine. If on Monday your doctor can't tell them you have to pass by to pick up samples or he has to call in your Rx at the pharmacyHealth Question & Answer

Missing two days won't affect you as it takes approx. 6 weeks for the medicine to start fully working and it won't be going out of your system any time soon. Don't worry, you should be fine, just make sure you keep busy and get your prescription straight away on Monday.Health Question & Answer

Not for a couple of days - fluoxetine takes a while to work out of the body. If you feel bad, you can call an emergency doctor and there are dispensing chemists open at the weekend. You'll be okay, just don't get stressed about not having it - you should be fine.Health Question & Answer

You might have some weird sensations in your body like electricity, but you should be ok till Monday. Mind over matter. I have been taken off all drugs when I had operations and I got by ok. If all else fails don't be afraid to cal 911 if you are an American and they will take you to the hospital and get you safe. But if you are stable now you should be fine.Health Question & Answer

The local hospital can give it to you if you go to the A&E / ER or out of hours GPs can too. Try and give them a ring.
If you are frightened of being without it at the moment then please get help. Yes it can affect you, you shouldn't just stop as side effects can occur. Hope you get your meds,Health Question & Answer

Your doctor should have an emergency contact number. If you cannot contact your doctor, go to the emergency room and have them contact him or the doctor that is on call for him.

Plan ahead and get your prescriptions and refills before you need them.Health Question & Answer
