I was just wondering. I answered a question on here about someone who said she took her pills and attempted suicide and wanted to die. What happens when someone says they want to kill themselves or they've attempted suicide .? Does yahoo do anything .? I mean I feel bad for some people on here. How can we make sure they don't go kill themselves.? Does yahoo have to report all those questions to the police so they can check on the person.?Health Question & Answer

I address many questions about suicide on this site. Yahoo's policy is to delete the question and answers once it is reported. In addition they send a generic e-mail to those posting about suicide. What I will normally do is add them as a buddy before i answer the question and then send a private email with my email address and messenger information. Most need someone to listen and sadly some of the great answers get deleted because of the cry for help. Suicidal people that speak about being suicidal generally fit in two categories
1. Those that talk about suicide while trying to talk themselves into doing it because they are miserable.
2. And those that talk about it because they already have a plan and just want a reason to not do it.
Though many will say, "a suicidal person is only crying wolf" just as many will say, " I wish the completed suicide person had just came to me" The mention of suicide is never to be taken lightly and unless there is a co-morbid condition, most will not go to the hospital on their own.
I have worked with suicidal patients for over thirty years. Th stigma of suicidal thinking is the biggest obstacle for without such obstacles yahoo would not delete the answers and more people would speak of their own silent internal struggles. Health Question & Answer

I don't think Yahoo can do anything, but usually after you attempt suicide (and live) or if it it caught in the earlier stages by someone they know then you are sent to a psychiatric hospital where they can help you. Hopefully if someone is suicidal they will take themselves to the hospital or they will have a friend or family member that will take them to the hospital so they can get some help. Initially our ego tempts us to believe that it is bad for yahoo to not report postings from people who discuss thoughts of suicide. The reality is that it is good for people experiencing suicidal thoughts to have an anonymous place to post their thoughts and questions. Honestly, none of these individuals will commit suicide within the near future.

Its tough in these situations. You can try calling police but if the person doesn't want help they wont be able to give it. Suicidal people may believe: they are not worth anything, no one cares if they disappear, the world would be better with out. Its basically hatred turned inward. If you know the person its best to tell them to seek help. Its not uncommon sadly. They can walk into any hospital and ask to speak to a doctor. The doctor then can refer them to a psychiatrist.Health Question & Answer
they cant really do that, i mean yahoo cant check up on the people like that. unfortunately, the people who say that stuff on here if that stuff if true, its up to them or whoever find them to take care of them, though its WICKED hard to die frompill overdose unless its sleeping pills or a TON of themHealth Question & Answer
