How long after your GP referral did you get an appointment with the CMHT?!

Question: How long after your GP referral did you get an appointment with the CMHT.?
Last week Thursday I saw my GP for a check up regarding my depression. She said she'll refer me to the community mental health team. I was expecting to have got something in the post by yesterday (Saturday) and just wondering how long others waited from the time someone referred you to actually seeing someone.Health Question & Answer

My community mental health nurse works one day a week at the doctors to see patients who have been referred. I saw my doctor on the wednesday and didn't hear from her until the following friday so over a week later. Like most answers have said it depends how busy they are but i would wait two weeks and if you haven't heard anything then go back to the doctors. It may seem like a long time but they will contact you soon. Good luckHealth Question & Answer

All referrals are discussed at the team meeting which occurs weekly. At that time each case is discussed and a priority decided. The intervention required is also discussed as to what would be the most appropriate. Depending upon the urgency and workload of the CMHT you will be seen between 1 week and some months later.Health Question & Answer

Hiya Honey !

I guess the short answer is - it depends how busy the team is with other patients ! (Over-stretched NHS !)

Your doctor will have assessed how bad your depression was when you saw her. If she was in any way over-concerned - she'd have got you more urgent help. Having said that - I can usually get an appointment with my CMHT within a couple of days.

If you've not had a letter by Tuesday morning at he latest - I'd call them

Best of luck, Sweetheart.Health Question & Answer
