What explanations are there for schizophrenia ?biological and psychological?!

Question: What explanations are there for schizophrenia .?biological and psychological.?
Answers:

The biological explanation for schizophrenia is that it's a largely genetic disease (hence if one identical twin has it, the other is much much likely to have it than chance), causing problems with dopamine (amongst other neurotransmitters), with the knock-on effect of hallucinations etc.

BUT, with the rise of CBT, and a worrying (to me) anti-medication trend, there are attempts to claim a psychologicial explanation. To be honest, these seem very very weak to me. Google "expressed emotion" to see a line of thought that psychologists think is promising.

Personally, I think it's just psychologists trying to get their foot in the schizophrenia door, and I find it dangerous if it diverts people away from drugs that are proven to work.Health Question & Answer
