How did you cope with the fear?!

Question: How did you cope with the fear.?
How did you cope with the fear of labor pains second time around.?

I've got a 7 week old daughter and have always wanted two children but after labor I am extremely petrified of feeling any pain like that again. It upsets me a little bit because I don't want it to stop my having another baby in the future :( .

I only had gas and air during my first labor and I got a second degree tear which I suffered with for weeks after. I was wondering if maybe looking into a epidural would be better for next time.? How else can I stop this fear because I don't want to spend the whole time of my next pregnancy scared to death at whats coming!!Health Question & Answer

So many people told me you just forget about the pain of labor and do it again, just like you I never forgot the pain of my 1st labor which i also did without drugs. I was so nervous about the pain when i was pregnant with my second child. I decided to have an epidural and there was NO pain at all-just some pressure when pushing-during the birth of my second child!! I highly recommend having an epidural. More importantly though- just enjoy this time with your new baby and let yourself not worry at all about a second pregnancy until your ready. One day at a time. Another baby is so far in the future-try to live in the moment and enjoy it. Your body has been through something major. Allow yourself time to heal and get used to life with a baby. This is a huge adjustment time for you and maybe thats why your worrying more than usual. Congrats on your baby! Best wishes to you bothHealth Question & Answer

Usually the second time is easier. Besides, it can't be worse than the first time :)Health Question & Answer

In the early stages of labor when your cervix is thinning out (effacing) and opening up (dilating), from 1 to 5 centimeters, we encourage you to be out of bed as much as possible. Walking during early labor is encouraged unless continuous monitoring is required for you or your baby. While you are in early labor you may have sips of clear liquids (apple juice, water, 7-up, ice chips or a popsicle).

In some cases, your doctor/nurse midwife may prefer that you have nothing to eat or drink. He/she will explain to you why this is necessary and your nurse will make you as comfortable as possible.

Taking childbirth classes is an excellent way to prepare for labor and delivery. They help relieve some of the anxiety and fear your may have about labor and delivery by telling you what to expect and providing ways to cope with pain. They also give your partner suggestions on how to make you more comfortable during labor.

You may desire some type of pain medication or anesthesia during your labor. (Pain Control)

Two kinds of pain relief available: You may be given pain medication which is given into a vein or a muscle. These medications usually last about 1 to 2 hours. They take the sharpness from your contractions, making them easier for you to cope with.
