Question: I'm having difficulty staying off substances, what can I do to help.?
Throughout my childhood I suffered from horrible anxiety and shame, then when I got older I discovered drink which made me forget it a bit and allowed me to hold down a job for a while, and to socialise.

However years of drinking, around a bottle of whisky a day for 3 years at one point, have led to minor brain damage, the symptoms of which include co-ordination difficulties, memory loss and involuntary muscle movements. I moved on to Diazepam and soon became addicted to this, in place of drink, it was just something else that would take away the anxiety and self-consciousness.

Now I've been told by my psychiatrist that they will not give me psychological treatment for my anxiety unless I give up drinking and Diazepam and allow six weeks for the anti-anxiety Venlafaxine (Effexor) to work, since apparently drinking a bottle of whisky a day was stopping it working.?

I was given a libirum home detox, and now it's sobriety Day 2. Rome is burning to the ground. My anxiety is back, these Effexor really are a waiting game, I'm frustrated, bored, and feel hopeless. I am 23. I have lost my job to drink, I do not have a wife or children.

A good point is that since I gave up drinking and started reading my college scores (I'm in my final semester of a 4 year degree in sociology) have went up. My last grade was a 1B, one mark short of a 1A which is as high as it gets. Whereas on the drink I was getting kicked out of classes and getting lower 2s.

But whats the point.? Maybe I will never have a good job or a wife and children, and therefore why not drink.? Why not just take the anxiety away with the drink.?Health Question & Answer

Come on..don't drink your life with whisky...if you are such a good student..go get those grades..nobody has seen the future..you'll definately have a good job if you keep studying...i too have an anxiety problem but i'm not drinking my health away..
Be serious about your life..don't let it go waste...join hobby classes..
do things which you love..
Happiness can't be bought..It has to be created..in small things..Love yourself...live upto your dreams.. You are the most important person in your life..give that importance to yourself..
