Are my fears irrational?!

Question: Are my fears irrational.?
This may sound stupid, but at this point I really don't know.

I am a hypochondriac or have OCD. When I was 11 I was put on anti depressants, for what I now know wasn't depression, but OCD. The symptoms I had were so identical to those of OCD.

After I took the medicine it went away and now 6 years later,it seems to have either came back,or gotten worse. I don't know.

I used chap stick from my mom's boyfriend(it's the kind you rub your finger in) and he had a cold sore.

Well, for some reason I think it gave me a disease and I can't seem to shake it. Everyone tells me how irrational I am,and how I'm stupid for worrying about it,bu it just makes me feel worse.

I often check my body all over and end up freaking out. I have made my mom check countless times and she tells me to stop acting like this. The doctor ran tests to ease my mind, and she told me that everything looked normal but I'd have to wait until another week before I got the results back.

So,my question is.. are my fears irrational.? How can I make this stop.?

I just want to be my normal self again, something I haven't been for two months now.

Speaking as someone with likewise problems, I have learned that you can not control feelings or emotions. My advice is to seek out insight that can change how you feel about specific fears. I have to do this with one fear or emotion at a time. (i.e. your fear of catching something from your moms bf's chapstick) Keep in mind that your perception IS your reality. Try to change your perception then your reality should change.
Easy said, difficulty in doing, I know. No one will be able to change this perception except you. Health Question & Answer

well fear of germs is kind of an OCD thing. like having to clean your hands everytime you touch something...or when somethings disorganized...

but yeah, they definitely seem irriational. bit of a hypochondriac if you do think somethings wrong with you right now.
close your eyes and try to breathe, start writing down your thoughts and feelings, maybe take a yoga class...things like that.Health Question & Answer

I read something very interesting the other day about OCD: often times people with OCD focus on hygiene (excessive handwashing, worrying about sickness, etc.) because in truth, humans are not very clean creatures. However, washing your hands a million times a day and going to the doctor all the time is not really going to help. Germs are everywhere, it's a fact of life, and in fact the more you expose yourself to them, the more immune you will become. So after you get your test results, relax. Sorry if this doesn't make sense. The article explains it better than I can.
