Possible medical condition is making me so worried?!

Question: Possible medical condition is making me so worried.?
I'm 19 years old and my doctors believe I have endometriosis. The only way to completely diagnose someone with endometrisosis is through surgery. I'm so afraid to have this surgery because I'm in so much pain all the time, which leads me to believe it's severe. Severe endometriosis can cause infertility.

The point is, I'm afraid to have the surgery because I'm scared the doctors will get the results back and say it's really bad and I need to have kids now or I'll never have them.

How do I stop worrying about this.?.?.?Health Question & Answer

Well as a woman who has endometriosis I know how scary it is and the pain your going through. My heart is with you. You have to have the surgery or horrible things can happen and the pain only gets worse. as a health care worker I can promise the medical world is a really advanced place now days and Doctors do their bests to work miracles They will do everything they can to make sure you can still have babies they did for me and I have been pregnant 4 times and given birth to 5 wonderful children despite my condition. my only other suggestion is PRAY when times are rough and you need a pick me up get on your knees and pray girl. I will be praying for you good luck and please have the surgery you won't regret it. Best of luck Health Question & Answer

It's a test that will give you results. The test won't change what's going on with your body other than that you'll be aware of it. So in the worst case, you can't have kids, you'll know that rather than try and try with out succeeding. On the other note, you could find out it was a misdiagnosis and then you will be extremely relieved.Health Question & Answer

well i have had the surgery and its not that bad. they went through my belly button and right above my hair line. it took just a while and it was over. dont be afraid. they only thing i have heard to correct it is to get get pg. so good luck. you need to have it done to check to see if you are ok. dont worry they will take care of you.Health Question & Answer

Unfortunately, the only way to truly stop worrying about this is going to be having all of the information about your situation. Meaning having the surgery and knowing just how bad it is or isn't. Health Question & Answer

You have to have the surgery hun. Sorry. No way around it. You need to get rid of the pain you are in. Good luck to you.Health Question & Answer

Umm...your scared to have the surgery, so you would rather not know what is going on in your body.?.?.? I don't think that's very smart, take my advice and see a doctor.Health Question & Answer

Worrying about this will not help you. Being afraid of the surgery will not help you. Distract yourself with something else. Take care.

Health Question & Answer

There are no quick ways to forget about it, believe me. Let me tell you a few things, though.

First of all, yes fertility is sometimes reduced. With endometriosis, the sharp drop that normally affects women around 35 tends to happen closer to 27. That leaves you quite a few years of what is likely good fertility. Having a baby at 19 just because you might be able to at 25 or 30 is not a good reason. Most women with endometriosis don't actually get any positive diagnosis of it until they're pregnant anyway, so i'm not sure that the huge concern over infertility is as big as they sometimes say.

Secondly, fertility is much more complicated that one factor. Other factors including body weight (too much or too little), chronic malnutrition, highly demanding sports(e.g. certain types of athletic training), PCOS, and pelvic inflammatory disease or other STD infection. The best chance you have to get pregnant in future is to take care of your body, eat right, get resonable exercise, and make healthy sexual choices (monogamy or abstinence).

Third, heavy periods and strong cramping aren't always endometriosis. There are other reasons why you may have those symptoms.

The bottom line, as i see it, is that its much wiser to wait until you're ready to have children. Get yourself grown up, hopefully get some formal education, build yourself a healthy marriage, and then try for kids. Its much healthier for any child you bring into the world to be in that environment than one that results solely out of your fear of not having kids (and having them too early, when you maybe aren't really ready).

One last thing... i don't know if you believe in God. I do. I know women who were told that they wouldn't be able to get pregnant or that they shouldn't have be able to get pregnant (from stuff like endometrial scarring) and they've got happy healthy families. Its taken time to get through my head, but i've realised that no person is an accident. I can do what i can to make my body as ready as it can be, but in the end i have to trust God to do what's best for my husband and i. It might sound strange, but this actually gives me peace. My fertility, or lack thereof, is in the hands of Someone who knows better what i need that i do.Health Question & Answer
