I have a learning disability, can I go to University?!

Question: I have a learning disability, can I go to University.?
I really want to go back to school and get a degree. I have never gone to university b/c i thought it would be too difficult for me to accomplish. I have several learning disabilities and I have never made good grades but I try really hard. I have gone to college and I got a 2 yr diploma. (but it was a really easy school and program)

also is it hard to get in to University.? In college it is based on High School grades but none of the University programs I have been looking at seem to mention prerequisites.

This is all new for me so any info. would be great.

PS i was thinking about going to university of Toronoto

Answers:
Yes, you can get into a university. It will definitely be harder for you, but depending on the disability, you can get help from your professors.

You never actually said what disability you had. If you're dyslexic, that would be the hardest for certain. But, you can usually get special papers and stuff like that from the different professors if you ask them for any disability.

I believe they interview you to get in, so you'll have the perfect opportunity to explain your situation.

If you don't get in, don't worry about it. Many people don't understand learning disabilities, and believe it's just a cop out to get a free pass.

well it isn't that difficult to enter a university. Pretty much all you need is a GED with a 410 or higher. You may be interested starting at a community college and then become a transfer student to a university. i don't know if you can do that at your particular university, but some you can.

Prerequisites are just things that you have to take before the one you want to take. Say you liked speech 102, but you never took a speech class in high school. You would have to do speech 101 before 102. Hope that's easy enough to understand. Those are advanced level courses, and it sounds like you just want to do the low level ones. You should be able to attend. Just speak with your appointed counselor about classes, and any kind of offered help available (most likely in in student services -- which provide unlimited time with tutors that you've already paid for on your tuition). also, it's required for you to take an assessment test before scheduling any courses to see where you fit in academically.Health Question & Answer
