Do you someone with schizophrenia that appears normal and appears to be mentally stable?!

Question: Do you someone with schizophrenia that appears normal and appears to be mentally stable.?
Answers:
Most people don't really know what schizophrenia is or how people with it behave other than the stereotypes of people walking with tin foil on their heads to protect themselves from alien invasion.

If your belief systems are paranoid or otherwise somewhat delusional AND you share those thoughts with other, others will pick up on something different about you, maybe consider your paranoid. Non-schiz people are paranoid, so the link to the illness may well not be made.

If you are hallucinating and physically respond to the hallucinations, you might be considered anxious depending on how you respond. If you tell people you are hallucinating, then, yeh, they'll think something's wrong, but whether they make the line to schiz is hard to guess.

If you are quiet and withdrawn, then you'll be seen as quiet and withdrawn.

All that ramble, and the real answer is, no, people can't know by just being around you. There has to be A LOT more for them to catch a clue. So, relax.Health Question & Answer

Why, do you hope you can 'fake' a smile for the rest of your life.?

The people who 'hide' their schizophrenia are usually worse for it, since they're putting energy into pretending to be someone they aren't when they could be using that energy to deal with the person they are. And in the case of mental illness, making the mind do extra credit, when it's already in bad shape, is not a recipe for long-term success.

You're crazy, you're damaged, you're unique. The only people who won't know that are the same people who could care less about your life because they're too busy worrying about their own. Nut cases always recognize their own.Health Question & Answer

My ex was diagnosed with schizophrenia 3 years into our 5 year relationship. After the initial break and about six months of trying to find a medication combo that worked for him, he was completely functional. I'm not going to say that he was 100% normal again because the whole thing did change him. As long as he takes his medication and does not drink or do any drugs he does not appear to be in the least bit unstable. He holds a good job and lives on his own now. Everyone is different of course, some people aren't that lucky however yes it is definitely possible to have schizophrenia live a totally normal life where no one ever has to know.

And yes, he does still have symptoms from time to time but over the last four years he has learned to cope with them really well. He was hospitalized three times, and lived in a group home for a couple of months when it first happened and no one really knew what was going to happen to him. The right meds made all the difference and he hasn't had any major incidents or hospitalizations since.

There are people who function quite normally with schizophrenia. Not everyone with the disease is wandering the streets muttering to themselves. I've known several people who you'd never know are schizophrenic, I didn't know until they told me.Health Question & Answer
