Answers:
The exact cause of dyslexia is still not known. Dyslexia and its causes are being researched extensively in an attempt to improve understanding of it. The following information is just one way of interpreting the research, there are many conflicting views, and the interpretation is likely to change as new research findings emerge.

Inherited, Neurological Differences
It is likely that the difficulties seen in dyslexia are due to small differences in the brain. The differences in the brain are most likely inherited from the parents. This does not mean that the parents of a dyslexic will also be dyslexics but there is a higher probability that they will be.
Environmental Factors
Although dyslexia may be due to biological factors, the extent of the difficulties it causes are very much influenced by the environment

Quality and Quantity of exposure to the language in which the child is trying to develop literacy - A child who has difficulty speaking a language is likely to have difficulty reading and writing in that language. Consequently the amount of time they spend listening to and speaking a language is important in determining their competency in both speaking and reading and writing in that language.
Negative responses from others - If a child is constantly told that they are stupid or unable to do something they are likely to lose self-confidence and motivation. If they are not making the effort to learn then it is highly unlikely that their ability will improve.

Educators express doubts that difficulty in learning to read is due to anything more than poor environmental support for reading. Of course environmental factors are responsible for many failures in learning to read, but the concept of dyslexia suggests that there are unique biological causes and special educational needs for many children with reading problems. Studies show that even though there is a strong genetic contribution to many cases of dyslexia, extraordinary environmental intervention can significantly improve reading skills in children with dyslexia.
Do I think that he might become dyslexic during the time in the hospital.? No!
It sounds ignorant to me too. Most likely inherited from the parents or dyslexia may be due to biological factors. Several biological factors have been linked to the development of dyslexia. The exact cause of dyslexia is likely to change as new research findings are emerging day by day.

Health Question & Answer

Are you asking if the environment caused dyslexia.?.? No. Not that I have heard or read, yet, anyway. Being in the hospital for 4 months or when 4 months old .? Are you the one dyslexic.?.? There usually is a family connection, but a dyslexic person is an intelligent person who has reading difficulties. Sometimes there are other problems, but they aren't dyslexia. Many bright successful people are dyslexic. A friend of mine is 93 years old! She has to slow down now, so she is in a living facility. She is sharp, was a real estate broker. She said to be safe, she read each contract 4 times all the way though to make sure there were no mistakes. I didn't know she was dyslexic until she told me 2 years ago! You couldn't tell. I hope this helped.Health Question & Answer
