Why can't I get to sleep? Not normal..?!

Question: Why can't I get to sleep.? Not normal...?
It takes me from about 30 minutes to 2 1/2 hours to get to sleep. Usually somewhere in the middle. My boyfriend thinks I should take yoga. But the fact of the matter is that that is NOT good for me. I can tell you that right now. He says one of the exercises is to lay on your back for 10 minutes and think about nothing. I have drama with family and online friends and I have drama and bullying I have to deal with at school. If I sit there and try to NOT think about things, I WILL think about things.
& Just a few moments ago I thought too much. Too much about this situation and I just cried. Hard. And it was uncomfortable. And I just figured it wasn't normal and wanted your help with this.

So please tell me if there is anything besides yoga my boyfriend would approve of me doing to get me back to sleep. Preferably done in the house.

Thanks everyone. Health Question & Answer

To get back to sleep you can do a lot of jumping jacks, pushups and situps until you feel like you got some of the frustration out. You can feel the frustration physically, and once you exercise you will feel it slip away.

also try hypnosis audio tracks. If you're not up for that, then play some nice calming music. That might sound stupid if you enjoy rock or rap but it will work to get you to sleep. What's more important.. pride or sleep :D

At the nutrition store there is an herbal remedy for this called KavaKava. You can get it in a bottle. Ask the nutritionist how much you need to take.. usually about 10 drops. This will slow your mind down and give you a bit of a "heated" feeling in your face. It's very safe.

Try to get to the root of the problem.. find something you really enjoy, something that will captivate your attention so much it will suck you in.

Get rid of negative online friends.

My favorite is music. Whenever I am totally anxious, depressed, etc I listen to music.

Some others might be:
painting
sculpting
kickboxing.?

Pick something that takes brain energy - creative or physical - and do it.

Finally don't think you're not normal. Don't worry about you worrying about staying up because you're worrying ;) Just take a few steps at a time from the above list and you'll notice some calming down and better sleep.Health Question & Answer

Write in a journal before bed. This will get out some thoughts that are weighing on your mind. Just try to relax and fantasize about happy things. Make yourself as comfortable as you can. Spray some lavender in your room or on your pillow. I personally like to use one of those eye patches to help keep my eyes closed and keep any light out. Read a book....or maybe even once in a while, I even fall asleep to a movie if my mind is racing too much.Health Question & Answer

This happens to me a lot too... The sort of times where you just lay there at bed and think about random stuff like what happened for the day and you just can't stop thinking about things and then suddenly you're off to sleep...

I think it's nothing much to worry about... probably just a dose of insomnia... however if gets too troublesome and interferes with your wellbeing then I suggest getting a counselor...

If not, here's the things I do if they should help...

1. Check your diet for caffeine such as sodas, coffee, and even chocolate... You might want to lessen up on those stuff for a restful night sleep.

2. Minimize sugar intake prior to sleeping... We do know that sugar can make us "hyper" (hyperactive)... So reducing intake can make us less energetic for the night...

3. Don't overwork before sleeping... A simple task... Rest... Just watch TV, take a long bath, or just meditate with breathings...

4. Don't worry too much about problems, learn to prioritize, organize and simplify your life...

I think that's all I can share... If these won't help I really suggest you should see a counselor.. maybe they could prescribe some sleeping pills and better remedies...

It is wonderful that your boyfriend is taking you seriously and cares enough to give suggestions, hope you appreciate him, and have thanked him!
If you cannot distance yourself from the drama your family and friends are involved in, then you must at least convince yourself that it is not your drama, NOT YOUR PROBLEM!
You should not have to deal with bullying alone! If it is more than you can handle by yourself, it may be criminal, please seek professional advice. It doesn't have to be the cops or a lawyer, maybe start by looking it up on the internet.? If you are a college student, there is definitely someone on campus whose job it is to take care of just such types of harassment!
Guess I got carried away, sorry to hear you are hurting!
Good Luck!Health Question & Answer
