to me it means these people have realized that these highs they get from these drugs are greater then anything they've felt before and they just want to keep feeling that way even if it means their death. The statistics that I have seen are higher for children of an alcoholic parent to become alcoholic themselves. I am not positive, but I think the percentage is, if one parent is an alcoholic the likelihood of the child becoming an alcoholic is 50% increased over having parents with no substance abuse issues. If both parents are alcoholics the likelihood tips way over to close to 95%. Alcohol is a subtle destroyer. It has very little if any positive effects compared to how many lives it has destroyed. Drug abuse is a much more blatant, in your face, killer. Where it may take alcohol ten or twenty years to kill, drugs can do in a fraction of that time. Drugs can do it through different means too. If not through an overdose, you could get aids, shot for buying in or selling in a bad neighborhood, sent to jail, etc. To sum it all up: alcoholism & drug abuse are both a means to an end - an end to life.Health Question & Answer

Someone who's hit rock bottom so they confide in drugs & alcohol.
