Take a whole new look at the situation. Instead of thinking of it as a time of 'being alone' and subsequently feelings bad and miserable, why not think of it as "YOU' time.? Time for You to do some things you have always wanted to do but have never got around to. Make a list of the friends you wanted to catch up with by phone, in person, or do something radical and write a letter (much more satisfying than an email) Declutter your home, cupboards,reorganize your clothes, develop a 'new' look, do some yoga, meditation, a novena,what ever ffloatsyour boat. Rejuvenate yourself, get a massage, go and see that movie you couldn't find anyone to take, read that book that everyone is talking about. This could be a great opportunity for you to reconnect with yourself, see where you need to 'tweak' things to improve your lot in life. Wow, there are so many people who would love some me time. So you see its all about choices, choose to take the holiday season to do things for you, which will make you a much happier, fulfilled person and more able to give back to the community. I am no mental health expert, can only tell you "what my Momma always said", but it has worked for me!
-Get some exercise, if you can, and especially try to enjoy the outdoors!
-Stay away from negative people and situations!
-The old stuff is not working, TRY SOMETHING NEW !
-Make a "pros and cons" list, run to pros, run from cons, LOL!
-Take this opportunity to do something YOU have always wanted to do, now that you do not have to consider another's feelings.
Even if it is just cleaning out the attic or reading a book you have kept putting off! You can cook what YOU like now! You can have the pet you always wanted, but others did not!

You mentioned that "you are alone". Does this mean you live alone and/or have no family and/or have no friends.? I am not sure what you are saying, but I will assume you are alone with no friends and family. Doing your volunteering may not be enough. Can you do more of this.? Seniors Homes are always in need of volunteers and you would be a valuable asset to one. You can also try a daycare CENTRE, a school, the library, a church. Don't get depressed honey, I know how you feel, dreading the holidays- my grandpa, who I was very close to died recently. However, I think you should get yourself preoccupied, try new hobbies, go out with friends, blog anything. If that helps until the actual holidays, I advise you to spead the Holidays with close family members, or close personal friends. There may be some meetup events with neat people that you don't know. It's really great... I haven't met any wierdos.

I really really really recommend it. It gets me out of the house and active. One of the best things is you usually have to RSVP for an event. If I RSVP yes, then I feel like I have to go or I'll let other people down.

Sports like running really help for me.. Sports so called releases endorphins to your body which supposed to really give your mind a happy boost.

I don't really care but running allows me to "run away' from all my problems and it feels good.. Thus it lets you be PHYSICALLY healthy too! Whats not to like.?Health Question & Answer
