This is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I am so very sorry that this has happened to you. There are crisis hotline numbers in all cities. Please call information to find the one nearest to you. They are staffed with professionals you can talk to and they can refer you to help. They would know if there is a free clinic some resource where you live that can help you. If this man is being prosecuted which I hope is the case he can be ordered to pay for your therapy. also call the courthouse in your city and ask for Victim Services many times they can help you. Please take care. You certainly don't deserve to live like this.Health Question & Answer

There are services for those that don't have insurance and can't afford counseling. Start by calling the rape crisis center. There are trained professionals there that can help you. They will probably also know where you can turn for free counseling. I urge you to call today. Don't put this off. You have been through a horrible traumatic experience and you can get the help you need.Health Question & Answer

Depending on your area, there may be rape crisis centers, hotlines, or women's refuges/shelters where you can receive counselling. Some find further therapy helpful, later on. Be aware of the possibility of developing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, as well. Flashbacks, ****nightmares, difficulty sleeping****, and just staring blankly for long periods of time are some symptoms. For more PTSD info, treatments, and links, see http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris in sections 33 - 34.

Nightmares: There is advice on recurring dreams & nightmares in section 3, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris. Remember the troubling nightmare in as much detail as you can. Create a scenario in which you manage to prevail. "Tonight, in my dreams, I want to confront the .?.?.?/call on a dream ally for help". Write down your chosen form, at least 3 times, and repeat 3 times aloud, after lights out, and visualise yourself doing it, as vividly as you can, and WANT TO DO IT!!!, with all the desire you can muster, to better communicate this concept to your subconscious mind, through imagery & emotional intensity, so it understands that this is important.

Your subconscious existed before you could walk, or talk. It knows images, muscles/movement, and emotions: communicate with it in terms it can understand. It doesn't understand negatives. When dreaming, try calling for assistance from a dream character - even your favorite superhero is available to provide assistance, in the dreamstate. You can even try the technique of "dream re-entry", and use your new solution in that exact same situation. Try the above for 2 - 3 weeks; I believe there is a good chance they will work. Solutions, for later, (not free) are hypnotherapy (see www.hypnosisdownloads.com/ :- a choice of 400) or professional hypnotherapy, or Neuro Linguistic Programming - NLP therapy. ~~~ In your case, visualise yourself overcoming the attacker. I also suggest that you take up a course in self defence, to empower you, and give you confidence that you can handle any such event in future, rather than living your life in fear of another attack. Consider arming yourself, but never rely on arms alone!

In section 3, on insomnia, learn and practice the EMDR variant for insomnia. SHORT TERM, you may benefit from sleeping medication, but no longer than 3 weeks, preferably much less, then possibly an OTC product, short term, then valerian, or chamomile; eventually, just the insomnia techniques on page O.

Others said: "Being a rape survivor I found the best way to deal with it was to talk about it and to find a rape survivors group and talk to them. Most big hospitals have them and if you're in small town there are rape survivors groups on line. I know that it's hard but you have to remember that it's not your fault. The only person that's to blame is the person who perpetrated the assault. Other than the death of someone you love this might be the hardest thing that you have to deal with. I know that it's very hard but it can be done I know I've done it. Reach out for all the support that you can get and don't not talk about it. You will never forget it, but you can learn to live with it and be happy again. It will take time and energy but It can be done. Good luck and if you need someone to talk to email me.

This helped me. Write a letter to the perpetrator. Start with just the facts what happened 2nd how it made you feel then last what you would like to do to him/them(you know what I mean). Put it away and take it out and read it once and awhile until it makes you so sick you can't even read it any more. It is now time to get rid of this part of you life and move on. You can get rid of it anyway you'd like. I'm going to burn mine. I'm going to go to the closest spot to where it happened and burn it. I think the best part of it all is when you write what you would do to them. I hope this helps and be strong. It wasn't your fault". Health Question & Answer

I think that, first of all, you need to let go. What happened to you is really not your fault.

Try to find something that makes you feel secure and safe while you are at home. It can be something connected with your religion, if you are a believer or anything you associate with security - like a new safety lock. Even a teddy bear can be of help to you.

Drinking something warm before you go to bed is also effective, and so is watching a nice comedy or reading a good book.

All the best :)
