Answers:
I have bipolar and yes it is a form of depression. I take medication for depression as well as bipolar. You are not crazy if you have depression a lot of people have depression at all levels. But there is medications to help you out. I've been going through this with bipolar for over 27 years now and with medication I was able to work and raise a family with out any problems. I did good enough that I was able to retire at 48 as well as me wife.
Basically get some medication and learn to help yourself along the way. Learn about it more read, do research. I did that and it helped to know all about bipolar. I see 2 therapist and a doctor every 3 months. I'm doing very good.
Part of bipolar is a chemical embalance in the brain. So you will get mood swings sometimes for a couple of hours or it could go for days and even weeks.
All my information is from 4 certified doctor for bipolar and 3 therapist who also are certified in bipolar. Plus I've done my own research in books and support groups speaking with 25 to 30 people with the same problem. Bipolar affect each person in a different way. What might happen to me may not happen to you.Health Question & Answer

depression is a chemical imbalance in one's brain that depletes the amount of serotonin making the person sad and moody and sleepy and uninterested.

bipolar is a disoder of the brain, also a chemical imbalance, but this one either floods the brain with serotonin, making the person manic and experience highs that allow them to do things they usually wouldn't do without guilt until the serotonin depletes and they crash into a depression like the one above where one huge factor is a suicidal feeling accompanying it. these mood swings are violent and cause the person to act out and differently a lot of the time.

they are not the same because depression can be cured with medication and bipolar can only be managed with medication.

depression takes a different type of medication (SSRI's) and bipolar takes mood stabalizers.

i have also had depression since i was 9. i was diagnosed with bipolar at age 14. yes, you can have both. the cure for the depression is to take medication as prescribed and to get to the root of your problems with therapy and positve self-talk. it's hard, but worth it.

and no, you are not crazy. half the nation is depressed and the other half can't admit it. just do what the doctors advise, what feels right and take care of yourself. there is nothing crazy about that.Health Question & Answer
